A/N:

I'M SO SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING REGULARLY LIKE I USUALLY DO, I'VE BEEN BUSY SORTA KICKSTARTING MY NEW OTHER FANFIC BUT I WILL MAKE UPDATES ON SUNDAYS FROM NOW ON.

Linda does exist, I think it would add a little bit more drama if I did that. Also there's two little Easter eggs somewhere in this chapter. One from DC and one from somewhere else. ;)

I'm on my way to STAR Labs to tell him straight up that I'm willing to accept Barry's new condition after a few days of not speaking to him when I get a call from Layla, saying that she's just arrived in San Francisco and settling in. She would be there for a few days to cover for a sick reporter that was scoping hot clubs in the pacific coast.

"I mean, can you believe it? REBECCA CARSTAIRS, THE MOST AMAZING SINGER EVER, IS FINALLY PLAYING IN THE HOTTEST NIGHTCLUB TOMORROW NIGHT. SHE JUST CAME FROM WYOMING - I GOTTA GO NOW. MORE INFO ON THE STORY LATER! FAX IT TO LARKIN WHEN I'M DONE, THANKS I LOVE YOU-" she hangs up before I get a chance to even say hi.

Well then. I'm not doing so well with stories on crimes because that involves talking to Barry. But I'm willing to let that go and accept him. Officially.

I enter STAR Labs and see Barry, Caitlin, and Dr. Wells on the computers and looking at the overhead screen.

"Is there a reason that Stein's brain is in control of Ronnie's body and not the other way around?" Barry asks, looking back at Wells.

"Simple Darwinism, I suspect- a brand new organism will select the strongest parts of itself in order to survive- 'survival of the fittest', in this case, Ronnie's body." He stops to breathe and looks at me. "Evie, what a lovely surprise. It's nice to see you again."

Caitlin waves and smiles. I give the same response.

He nods curtly and turns to the others to continue, saying, "Stein's mind would, in any event, hurt an innocent man and we have hunted metahumans for less. Caitlin. We need to know that you're on board with what needs to be done here."

I whisper to Barry, "What's up with Ronnie, again?"

"He's the Burning Man... ish. And Caitlin's fiancée. He mashed together with Martin Stein. His body and Stein's mind." He raises an eyebrow. "Why are you so chill with this?"

"Because I'm-" I begin, but I can't bring myself to say it. "You get it."

Barry squeezes my shoulder and pretends like he understands. He leaves and walks to the screens near the elevator to pace around. "What do we know about him? I don't even know what Stein looks like."

Wells pulls up a picture of Martin Stein on the screen, and Barry says he's seen him before on the train to see the Particle Accelerator.

"Let me get this straight. This genius merged with a guy named Ronnie and his brain controls Ronnie's body. Then he, Stein, accidentally killed his best friend. Harsh."

"Very," Caitlin agrees.

Wells clears his throat. "I believe you and Barry have some important business to deal with. Caitlin, let's feed the metahumans."
