Chapter 4

Me and Leah arrive at London Colney. "Hey" Jim says
"Hi is everything okay?" I ask
"Yes we were just wondering when Fern wanted to do her trial" he says
"Well she's at school now, I can ask if she can come by afterwards" I say
"Okay" he says

Fern

Hey, is there anyway you could come to Colney after
School? Jim wants you to do your trial as he has to submit
Teams later on this week x

I'll try, but I'll have to go home first to get ready x

Alright, spare key is under the plant pot x

How's school? X

It's okay, I'm in history right now, teacher seems okay x

Alright we'll have a good day and no trouble! X

Fern POV

"is that a phone?" Mr Jackson says
"Sorry I was messaging my sister, she was worried about me" I say
"We don't use phones in school, do you need me to go through the basic rules. Although with you being in year 10 I would hope you would know them" he says
"I do know basic rules. I just needed to message my sister, no big deal" I say
"What's so important like?" He asks
"I thought you weren't allowed to know what I was messaging my sister, that's classed as confidential information do you want me to go through the basic rules" I ask, some people gasp and start giggling.
"Enough of the attitude and put the phone away, I see it one more time and it's coming with me" he says
I put my phone back in my blazer pocket. I was sat next to a girl, she didn't seem to interested in talking to me. I think her name was Phoebe, but I had no idea.
The lesson ends "Fern could I have a quick talk with you" he says
I go over to him and everyone leaves. "What?" I ask
"Please stop the attitude and don't use your phone, I'm letting it slide today" he says
"Great thanks" i say and leave.
Skylar was waiting for me and we walk to maths. I go in and the teacher tells me to sit at the back between skylar and a girl called Harlow. "Fern, this is Harlow shes in our friendship group, and likes football like you." Skylar says
"Hey" Harlow says
"Hi" I say
"So what team do you play for?" Skylar asks me
"Erm, no one now" I say
"You could join ours, we are looking for another player. What position do you play?" Harlow asks
"Midfield" I say
"Perfect" Harlow says
"Well, I kinda can't because im trialling for a club after school" I say
"What club?" Harlow asks
"-" before I get to speak the teacher starts talking.
"Right today we are going to be doing trigonometry and I know most of the class struggle with this but it's not that bad. Fern did you do this at your old school?" He asks
"Yeah" I say
"Great. Harry can you tell me which side the hypotenuse is?" He asks
"I don't know the triangle" the boy says
"No" the teacher says.
"Harlow how about you?" The teacher asks
"The middle?" She says and I start laughing. "Fern?" He asks
"It's the longest side. So for this shape it will be the left one" I say
"Perfect" he says
"Does anyone know the method to working out trig?" He asks
I put my hand up "Fern" he says
"SOHCAHTOA. So like Sin, Cos and Tangent. And then there's the three triangles which help with equations, so for example if you're trying to work out the sin of a triangle it would be opposite divided by hypotenuse. So for this shape it will be 40 divided by 20 which gives you 2 but you have to put the sin in brackets and things on the calculator" I explain
"What the fuck!" Someone shouts
"Right go stand outside James" the teacher says, he leaves.
"Yes you are correct" the teacher says
"Can I go to the toilet?" I ask
"Do you have a pass?" He asks
"No, but the pass is basic human rights" I say
"Actually-" he goes to say
"I have a right to go to the toilet when I need to, and therefore you can't hold me back going when I need to" I say
"Well actually the school doesn't allow it, not my rules" he says
"Fuck what the school says, I can't help my bladder is small. Plus you wouldn't want to be cleaning up piss of the carpet, so I suggest you let me go" I say and there was more giggles.
"Fine you can go, but you will be in detention tonight" he says
"Actually I can't, because I've got a trial for a football club" I say
"That's shit! What's it called pretty little girls" Harry mocks
"No it's actually called Arsenal" I say
I stand up and go to the toilet. "Oi" I hear the boy say. I turn around and see the boy who had to go out the classroom stood at the wall. "What's up?" I ask
"Your fit" he says
"And I was wondering would you like to be my girlfriend?" He asks
"No, I think you would much rather stick to shoving that shit back up your arse" I say
I go to the toilet and quickly message Tessa.
