The court hearing for Driftmark's succession arrived and Aemond was excited to see Lucenys again.
After the walk around the court, she left saying that she had to take the baby to the wet nurse and she had to take care of Joffrey.
Aemond stood behind Aegon and Helaena, and her mother stood with her hands clasped looking at the court while Grandfather Otto sat on the throne, as if he enjoyed it.
When they announced Rhaenyra and her family, Aemond noticed Lucenys.
She was dressed in dark Targaryen red, with a black velvet collar, wearing a diadem of small diamonds that held a red veil that fell down her back, revealing her hair perfectly combed in waves.
From her hand hung the child for whom the throne of Driftmark was disputed.
His half-sister's family took one side of the court. Rhaenyra with a cold look, Daemon behind her like her shadow, Jacaerys to the left of Lucenys who was caressing Joffrey's hair very tenderly and Rhaena to the right of the little boy.
The boy looked very innocent and oblivious to the whole situation that was taking place.
"Lucenys should be by your side," mother whispered to him, looking at Rhaenyra for a few moments. "She will be your wife soon and she should be with us who will be her new family"
"The snow freezes the sea," Helaena said looking at her ring. "And the green visions protect the pearl...stained...stained..."
Aegon sighed, annoyed by Helaena's ramblings.
When the court began its section, Vaemond Velaryon first spoke. He began to speak of the history of House Velaryon since Valyrian times.
"You speak for yourself and your own ambition..." Rhaenyra interrupted when Vaemond mentioned the true Velaryon blood. Rhaenyra's voice is hesitant but very defensive at the same time.
"You may make your own request, Princess Rhaenyra," Mother said, looking at the crown princess "Give Ser Vaemond the courtesy of being heard."
Aemond looked at Lucenys as Vaemond continued his rambling, he did not miss how she left her brother's hand to dig the nails of her right hand into the back of his left palm. She had her gaze downcast, as if she wanted to remain invisible to the eyes of the court.
If it were up to him, he would walk up to her and kiss the back of her hand, wiping away the small traces of blood that came from her.
When Vaemond finished his speech, Rhaenyra walked to face the iron throne and the man who sat on it.
"If I'm going to continue with this farce, I'd like to start almost twenty years ago..."
Everyone's gaze went to the front door that opened wide.
"King Viserys Targaryen. First with the name," the withered and weak figure of the king advanced with his staff down the stairs. "King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and protector of the Realm"
Silence fell on the court and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of the king's faint advance.
Aemond looked at his wife, she had stopped hurting herself to cover her mouth with her right hand, her eyes were crystal clear as she watched the king's figure walk.
Otto rose from the throne as soon as he could and when he was face to face with the king he lowered his head.
"I will sit on the throne today," the king said, his voice firm despite his condition.
At one point his crown fell off, but Daemon walked over to him and helped him settle onto the throne while breathing heavily. Once installed he began to say why it was this meeting if the Driftmark succession was told by Lord Corlys Velaryon and that the guardian of that information was Princess Rhaenys.
