The small wedding celebration continued as Septa Yunet took Lucenys to her room, Cregan downed another two glasses of wine out of nervousness.
Minutes later he told Sara that he was leaving, she said that she would take charge of the celebration and continued talking with Prince Jacaerys, who seemed very detached from the situation.
Cregan couldn't believe he was nervous, he had been with women before, he was a man and he used to go with his squire to the brothels in Winter Town. But he was nervous about entering the same room with Princess Lucenys.
Outside the room he saw the Septa of his wife.
"My Lord," she bowed her head in her presence.
"Is Lucenys okay?"
"Yes my Lord. The princess just wanted to get ready, that's all," she left the place.
Taking a deep breath, Cregan entered the room and saw Lucenys sitting on the edge of the bed.
She was wearing a simple, very pale beige nightgown with gold details, her hair fell in soft waves to her hips. Lucenys stood up and approached him with her head held high, her delicate hands went to the top of his doublet, trying to remove his buttons but her hands trembled.
"Lucenys, no," Cregan said, placing his hands on top of his wife's.
"It is my duty as a wife," she answered, still with her hands trembling.
"We won't do this if you don't want to."
"We need to consummate our marriage"
"I need to make sure you're okay first."
Her lips trembled and then she began to sob. Her hands left his doublet to cover her face. Cregan pulled her to his chest in a hug and ran his fingers through her soft brown hair.
After a couple of minutes she separated from him.
"We need to consummate the marriage," she said, wiping away tears.
"No need Lucenys."
"The only pure thing about me was my maidenhood. But he took it from me, he killed the girl so the woman would take control," she looked him straight in the eyes as she removed the top of his doublet. "I have a duty and it is this."
Cregan felt a little cold before her chest was exposed to the slight cold of the room, the sound of the flames in the fireplace was the only thing that could be heard in the room.
"And if so," Cregan said, taking his wife's chin, he moved closer to her tempting lips. "It will be as gentle as possible and I promise you will never find pain in our marriage bed."
Lucenys nodded and Cregan kissed her. Unlike her kiss before the tree and the Septon, which was only a light touch, he dedicated himself to expressing her devotion and commitment to her through her kiss.
Protect her and treasure her.
