"So," Frank smiled as he tucked his hair behind his ear, "Have you thought about the wedding at all?" The pair sat in the park on the same bench they had months ago as they began their courtship. A warm spell had flowed through the city for the last week, allowing the newly engaged couple to flaunt their love in as many public spaces as possible. Frank felt closer to Gerard than ever before since they exposed themselves before one another and allowed the other to see their most private spaces- he had even used the experience as an inspiration and wrote music specifically about and for Gerard. The artist continued work in his studio the following day as usual, and was pleasantly surprised by the breath of fresh inspirational air that flowed throughout the space.
A kid on a skateboard flew by, forcing Gerard to wait to respond to Frank's question until the loud wheels passed. "Yeah, I have been," he smiled behind his sunglasses, "I assume you have been as well?"
"Yeah, I guess so," Frank smiled as he stuffed his cigarette butt into his pocket, earning an unseen smirk from Gerard. "I don't really have anyone to invite, though- if we were to do a 'real' wedding... What do you think about eloping? Just the two of us?" Gerard shrugged his shoulders at the idea, wrapping his arm around the younger's shoulders as they looked out over the thriving green space before them. "I mean, I've never met any of your friends or anything, and I can't imagine you'd expect to see your father or brother there.."
Gerard stiffened at the mention of his family members, easing again as he felt Frank's hand reassuringly rest on his knee. "I guess I never pictured myself having a 'real' wedding- or any wedding at all for that matter. Eloping would be fun. Plus, then we can go straight home and fuck afterwards-" Frank slapped his knee playfully as he giggled along with the elder. "And about my friends, I don't have very many people in my life I would consider a friend, however there are a few people I'd like for you to meet." Frank tilted his head into Gerard's neck and sighed contently as he listened to the artist. "My friend Ray, for example. He's an excellent guitarist, and has been my closest friend since high school. He was my saving grace..he was there every time I got my ass kicked and Ray was actually the one who got me to quit drinking- everything I have I owe to him. Well, everything up until I met you, I suppose."
"What does he do?" Frank asked curiously, enjoying listening to the rumble of Gerard's voice echoing against his ear as it pressed to his clavicle.
"He's a composer. He writes music and sells it to other musicians, or companies for like commercials and shit. He wrote a song for a movie too, I forget what one.. but it was a big one.." The artist tried to remember but shook his head as he couldn't think of the title. "Whatever, he's a really cool guy though. You guys can talk about guitars and stuff- or not, he has a personality outside of music, too. He's a really great guy-" Frank hummed softly as he imagined meeting his fiancé's oldest friend. He couldn't help but feel intimidated by the high praises Way sung of him, and knew he couldn't keep up in a conversation about guitar since he had taught himself and didn't know any of the technical terms.
"I'd love to meet him," Frank nodded timidly into the elder's neck. "Who else?"
"Well, I suppose I would have liked for you to meet my brother- back when we were kids." He took a deep, labored sigh. In the far corner of the field, two kids chased each other around, screaming and laughing with one another, reminding Gerard of himself. "We were best friends..I just wish we could go back in time."
Frank turned his head and placed a gentle kiss on the artist's cheek. "I wish you could too," he offered, attempting to console the elder.
"Y'know..If he apologized to me, even after all these years- all these years of hate and torment and abuse- I would forgive him," Gerard said softly as he continued to watch the kids play. Frank's heart panged with guilt as he was helpless to save his fiancé from pain- he would do anything to ease the hurt Gerard felt, but he knew there was nothing he could do.
