"  After a while of talking, she rested her head on his shoulder. 'I'm sorry I can't return your feelings, even if I had them first.'

'That's okay.' Oikawa places his head on top of her head.  "

It's the second year of Iwaizumi and Oikawa in middle school.

Iwaizumi liked this one girl, Hayashi Emerald (Last, first), and for what it seems like, she liked him too.

It all started when she transferred from Canada, "Hi, my name is Emerald. I like volleyball and jujitsu." Interesting combination, Iwaizumi thought to himself.

"Thank you emerald, can you go sit by Iwaizumi and Oikawa?" The teacher pointed out. She slowly walked over, gracefully sitting down.

"Heya Hayashi. I'm Oikawa Tooru! This here is Iwa~chan," Oikawa pointed to each one of them. Iwaizumi blushed at the name, he didn't want the new girl to know him by that.

She giggled, "Iwa~chan?" Iwaizumi blushed even more. When she had said it, it felt different for him. The boy nodded, not able to say anything. "Nice to meet you two," Hayashi smiled.

The three got closer and closer, eventually all becoming best friends. They all would hang out after school at one of their houses and Hayashi would sometimes go to their practice. Iwaizumi would always, not noticeably, show off just to impress her. He had liked her for a few months, so he decided to go to his best friend about it.

"Oikawa.. what do you do when you like a girl?" He was shy when confronting him. Iwaizumi wasn't a flirty guy, instead he was a tough kid who didn't show much love.

Oikawa widened his eyes and squealed like a little girl. "OH. MY. GOD. Who is it?!"

I knew this would happen, "It's uhm.."

"Don't tell me! Hm.. it's Hayashi isn't it. You little rascal! Going for the cute Canadian," Oikawa winked. It seemed that he already knew, and for a while. Hayashi had hung out with Iwaizumi more than Oikawa, although it was mainly just talking about likes and dislikes. Sometimes Oikawa would get into the conversation.

"Yeah.. What do I do?!" Iwaizumi started to freak out, his voice cracking a bit.

"Alright, I'll give you my entire advice and attention on this. You are my buddy after all!" Oikawa smiled, finally seeing his best friend find interest in someone.

After a long session on how to act towards a girl, and how to confess to her, Iwaizumi finally obtained the confidence to confront Hayashi. "I'll tell her tomorrow!" He was determined.

. . .

Tomorrow

The three kids had finished school, and Hayashi still hadn't talked to Iwaizumi. "Oh crap! I need to get my gym clothes! You guys go on without me," Oikawa, not being sly about it, runs off to give the two some alone time.

Hayashi chuckled, "What a goof."

The two began to walk to their homes, this is my chance. Iwaizumi had waited a while, sweating a little out of nervousness. "Hey Hayashi-"

"Does Oikawa like anyone?" Hayashi had cut him off, not realizing he was talking. Oikawa? Why him? He's gone. Why does she always talk about him?

"Uh... no." Iwaizumi knew Oikawa wasn't looking for anyone, even though he had messed around with some girls.

"Do you?"

"Uhm.."

"Who am I kidding! I know you, you're not very lovey dovey."

"No, but I like you."

Iwaizumi blurted, he was tired of waiting. Hayashi looked up at him in shock.

"Me?! But I.."

Oh no...

"Hm. I think you're pretty cute too." She then giggled, a hand to her face. "But you're not much of my type."

Although it hurt him that she didn't like him back, he continued to ask "Why?"

"Well, I'm into the pretty type. Someone who can handle me right, with a careful touch."

Ouch. Not pretty? Iwaizumi couldn't help but feel a punch to the gut, her words hurt him. "So, like Oikawa?" She didn't talk for a while, continuing to walk.

"Yes, I like Oikawa." She was more serious and less giggly. "I really do want him. I'm sorry Iwa~chan." This time, when she called him by the nickname, it felt like a knife cutting through him. Not only was she in love with his best friend, but copied the nickname Oikawa called him.

"This is my house, bye." They stopped and Hayashi waved at him.

"Goodbye, and I'm sorry I cannot return your feelings."

"Whatever."

. . .

Now

"Iwaaa. You there? Class is over," Oikawa waved at his best friend's face. He finally snapped out of it and grabbed his things.

"Hey Oikawa," Y/n walked into the room. There she was, the girl he still couldn't stop looking at.

"Hey Y/n~chan! Where's your best friend?" Everything had become muffled.

How could she look so beautiful from just standing? Oikawa was wrong, she was always like this. Her hair is always nice, even if ruffled. During her practices she's perfect. Her face structure, her body, everything. When is she not pretty? Her lips too, they're soft as ever. I wish I could kiss her again.. Wait.. I think I've been staring at her for too long.

All of a sudden the noise came back, and Oikawa was trying to grab the spiker's attention. "Iwa~chan? Why are you staring at Y/n?" Iwaizumi immediately looked away.

"Sorry, I spaced out," he looked to the side with a tomato-shaded face.

"And I told Y/n you don't like her!" Oikawa yelled with a childish frown. Iwaizumi punched him, walking out of the classroom. "Ow!" He rubbed his arm. Y/n laughed.
