Chapter 9

Elara's pov

I woke up and found myself in bed. What the heck happened? I questioned myself as I got up from the bed. "A blonde chick kissed our mate and I took over." A voice said. It was a voice I have never heard before.

"Who's there?" I asked and looked around to see who the person was. "You cant see me. Elara. Im Shuri." The voice said. Then it hit me.

My wolf. I said and Shuri laughed. What was so funny?

"Im not a wolf. Im a black panther." She said and I was shocked. I wasnt a wolf. Im a cat-shifter. "Dont be shocked. We have always been like this. That stupid Alpha Luke gave you so much wolfsbane, it affected me and I couldnt seem to find my strength. Not even to make myself known." Shuri said.

I walked to the door and heard footsteps. I stayed by the door and heard to men talking. "Is Haley's sister alright? The hunters didnt get her?" One of them asked. Hunters?

"They said she wasn't hurt. So we shouldn't worry." The other said and their voices disappeared. I looked out the door and made sure no one was here. I walked out and went downstairs. I walked into the kitchen and found Bella in the kitchen. She spotted me and smiled.

"Hey Ela. Are you okay?" She asked concerned. I guess she can see I was a bit worried and nervous. I sat by the kitchen island and Bella gave me a glass of water.

"I...I heard two guys talking about hunters." I said. Bella looked shocked. She knew! I looked at her and she seemed to get nervous. "You knew didnt you? Why wasn't I told?" I asked.

"Cain thought it would make you freak out. He didnt want you to be scared. He wants you to stay safe." Bella said.

"Where's Cain?" I asked. Bella shook her head.

"I can't tell you. He said he will see you at noon." Bella said. I looked at Bella then at the glass.

"I'll find him myself." I said and headed for the door. Bella walked after me and tried to convince me to just wait but I didnt want to. I wanted Cain to be here. With me.

"Ela please listen." Bella stood in front of me. "Cain would never lue to you right? Just wait for him. He will come back and he will keep you safe." Bella said.

I sighed knowing she was right but I wanted to see Cain. "I know. I just need some fresh air." I said.

"Why dont we go for a run? You can meet some of Cain's friends that I hang out with." She said. Meeting new people again. That sounds nuce but I furst want to see what Shuri looks like. I want to shift to see if she was telling the truth.

"I think I will do it alone. Maybe next time." I said and ran out of the house. I know I probably hurt her feelings but there are things I need to do on my own. Okay Shuri, how do I shift? I asked. I went into the woods so no one could see me.

"First undress and hude your clothes in a tree so no one can find it. Then bend down on the gorund and think of shifting into your animal. The four legs, the ears, tail, ect." She said. I undressed myself and stood naked in the woods. I found a tall tree and hide my clothes in it. I bent down and did what Shuri said.

My bones broke and my insides shifted. I held back my screams of pain. My body felt like it was on fire and everything hurt. I closed my eyes and waited for the pain to pass. "You can open your eyes now." Shuri said. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at my feet. Now it was a paw with black fur. I found a small puddle and slowly approached it.

I looked at my reflection and saw I was a panther. A black panther with emerald colour eyes. Brighter than usual. I looked around and no one was around me. I took off in a run and it felt so good. The wind in my fur and the dirt under my feet. This felt so natural.

I felt free. More than I ever had. It was so relaxing. I saw a a path in the trees and tried it out. I jumped up a tree and jumped from branch to branch. It was so easy to do. "Its natural instinct. Its what we were born to do for fun." Shuri said. How about you take over. You can have some fun. I said and let Shuri take over

Shuri's pov

When Elara let me take control, it felt amazing. I jumped down from the trees and walked around. Everything was so peaceful but something seemed off. I walked around and noticed a tree with carving on it. It was an x. I followed the carved trees and almost walked straight into hunters. They had crossbows, guns and knives. What are they up to? I thought to myself.

"They want to kill wolves. Maybe we should leave." Elara said.

Dont be scared. If we want to live a happy life with this pack, the least we can do is help protect it. I told her. I heard her sigh knowing I was right. Elara went quiet for a second before she spoke again.

"Climb up the tree. Make sure not to make a noise." She said. I went back and climbed the tree. I layed on one of the branches and watched the hunters look around. "We are out numbered but as long as they dont go near the house then it will be fine." Elara said.

They are going in the direction of the house. I said. She sighed. I was about to make a move on one of them when a black wolf jumped at on of them. Five other wolves jumped out too and the attacked the hunters. Looks like we arent needed. I said. I was about to walk away when I noticed four other hunters.

They were aiming at the black wolf. The wolf didn't notice them. The hunter was about to pull the trigger. I jumped to the tree behind the four hunters and landed behind them. I growled and stood to my full height. The hunters looked terrified and they even dropped their weapons. "What is that?!" One of the hunters yelled.

It caught the others attention and I roared. The hunters ran into the battle and they all fled. The black wolf turned to me and growled. I growled back showing no fear but I could feel Elara's fear. I didnt want her to get hurt. Suddenly Elara's fear just vanished. "Its Cain." She said. I looked at the wolf and noticed his ocean blue eyes. It is Cain.
