Journee
Sounds of birds chirping, as the early fall winds brushed the window seals, stirred me awake.
Like clockwork, it was around seven in the morning, and time for me to get up. My day was never supposed to start any later than 8am.
And no, those rules weren't just my own.
Fleeing the bed, and sliding into my slippers, I brushed down my nightgown while heading to the bathroom to tame my hair. I had about thirty minutes until James would wake, and I needed to make use of it.
After brushing my teeth, applying my 'morning' makeup, and dressing in my day wear, I went downstairs to make breakfast.
James dislikes when I don't have it prepared by the time he's awake, and I didn't have time to bear any complaints today. So in turn, I had breakfast made, his clothes ironed, and the dishes done. And just in time, then, I heard creaks in the upstairs floor, signaling that my alone time was up.
"Journee!"
"Down here!" A few moments later, I heard footsteps on the stairs, followed by him turning the corner.
He grinned at me. "Morning baby," he kissed my cheek.
"Morning... Your food's in the microwave, I didn't want it to get cold..." A simple hum was all I received in response, but I expected nothing more.
"And my clothes?"
"Ironed," I responded while tidying up the living area. "You said you were wearing blue today, right?"
"Mhm... I got meetins' 'nd shit to attend, so I'll be gone all day," he said while eating. "Make sure you're ready by eight." I nodded, forgetting to verbalize my answer. "You hear?"
"Y-yes, sorry..."
"Good... and have my black suit ironed by the time I get back. I'm not wearing blue to The Velvet Avenue."
"Okay James." I started to go up the stairs, then paused apprehensively. "Are your meetings... Do they by chance have anything to do with me going on tour?..."
Hearing a sigh, I mentally braced myself, expecting yelling to follow.
"Baby I told you I'm working on it. These things take time."
"Right, I understand, okay..."
"Hey, come here." I followed suit, afraid of what may come. A hand pulled me in by the waist, making me lift my head. "I promised I'd make you the next big thing, didn't I?" I nodded. "You trust me, right?" Another nod. "Alright then, just let me make it happen for you. I've got you." A kiss was placed on my forehead before he let me go.
Those words would be sweet, if only it weren't my seventh time hearing it now.
But he's practically done everything for me, including giving me a place to stay, so I couldn't exactly complain. James came to my rescue when I was at a low point, and had nearly no one and nowhere to go. He found out that I could sing, and has been my manager since.
Says I could make it to the big leagues with the voice I have, and I started to believe him. I'm not sure where I'd be without him, really.
Probably out on the streets... or dead...

Dressing myself in a floral tie-top with denim capris, I slid on a pair of kitten heels to complete the look.
Fluffing out my favorite wig, I adjusted it in the mirror, and slid a headband just behind the bangs. I made sure every kitchen appliance was off, and everything I needed was in my bag before leaving the townhome.
