~ Fifty Years Later ~

November 24th, 2016

Omniscient

The impossible.

A rare and unforeseen gem. Sometimes a miracle and sometimes an accomplishment. Though never unremarkable...

It only requires the simplest spark to ignite the smallest flicker of a flame, and to kindle the fairest of motions.

The faintest return of life....

"Ma, tell Chris to quit botherin' me 'fore I kick him in the face."

"And how ever so lovely and ladylike of you," Christian sarcastically narrowed his eyes, earning a glare from his older sister along with a bird flipped.

"How's that for ladylike?" she flashed a fake smile.

"Oooo Mamaa- June back here cussinnn-"

His sentence was cut short by Amari reaching across the backseat to smack her brother upside his head, earning a hiss and an 'ow.'

"Snitch-"

"Will you two act your age please," their mother sighed heavily. "We got a long drive and I do not wanna hear it," she cut her eyes while turning up the music in their green Ford SUV.

It was Thanksgiving Day, and Iris and her brothers were to be at their mothers' in just a few hours.

Her husband unfortunately was away on business, but visiting home always seemed to make her every trouble and worry temporarily diminish. The place where she grew up all of her childhood, and that would forever be her home. No matter what life threw at her.

She couldn't wait to get there and finally relax. With her daughter going off to college soon and her son entering his prime teenage years, it'd been a long and stressful week indeed.

Meanwhile, her brother was feeling much the same way, all while dealing with the arguing of his very own kids.

"Destiny I'm going to kill you," Malachi grumbled, wearing a set of headphones with a glaring side eye back at his little sister. "If you kick my seat one more time-"

"You kill me and Mama gone send you packin' to the orphanage, watch-"

Their oldest brother rolled his eyes, sitting in the middle row of their van. "Will y'all please shut up-"

"I'm 'bout to make both of y'all walk to ya Grandmas' house, keep on," their mother, Sierra, craned her neck over her shoulder.

"She done did it before, play with her if you want to," Jonathan added with a smile, his eyes focused on the road.

Exiting further and further from the city, buildings and establishments were becoming lesser and lesser along their drive to the countryside of Atlanta, Georgia; heading to the home he and his siblings had grown up in.

Some of the best years of his life, Jonathan smiled at the thought. He had been missing home more than usual these days, as well as the comforting presence of his beloved parents.

Him, his younger brother August, and their eldest sister Iris had talked on the phone the night before- the way they often did sometimes to catch up- to discuss what time they planned to arrive home for the holidays.

It was something they did every other year, gathering together with all of their kids to spend either Thanksgiving or Christmas with each other. And given that they were together last year for Christmas, which their children utterly loved, this year was Thanksgiving's turn.
