"You excited??" Tiana asked Journee as they got ready for bed that night. She'd stood at the bathroom mirror while Journee sat on the bed, moisturizing. "I'm excited for you," she shot a smile at the woman.

Returning it meekly, Journee elicited a tainted sigh. "Yeah I'm excited, but also nervous... I just don't wanna mess it up Tee, this seems like the real deal."

"You bet your ass it does," Tiana went to sit beside her. Then she put a hand under the singer's chin. "And you deserve every bit of that. Quit your worryin' you gone do just fine honey."

"I just hope I have what it takes..." Journee tilted her head within Tiana's hand. "I can't afford to fail Tee."

"And you ain't goin' to Journee, trust me on that." Scooting closer to her, she stretched her arm over Journee's shoulders. "I'm so proud of you honey, you work hard at your craft. I understand your fears and doubts, but as soon as you walk in that buildin' you leave that at the door, y'hear me?"

Picking her head up from Tiana's shoulder, she locked eyes with the woman. And it warmed her to see the clarity in Tiana's eyes, as if there was no doubt in her mind Journee would succeed.

Soon her heart began to pound at their closeness, as Tiana's other hand drew sweetly to her cheek.

"You got this...alright?"

Letting her gaze wander, she then gave a mere nod, though didn't look away. And neither did Tiana.

The two women sat there, hardly an inch apart, lost in one another's presence. And suddenly Tiana had forgotten why she'd even put her arm over Journee's shoulder or put her hand to the woman's cheek. All she knew now was that she didn't necessarily want to move from the spot she'd occupied. Then Journee smiled, corrupting her thoughts even further.

"Coulda sworn you couldn't stand singers," she whispered, her eyes holding a teasing glimmer. "What changed Thomas?"

Chuckling softly, Tiana dropped her head before trailing her gaze back up to meet Journee's again. "I met you..."

At those words, whispered with sincerity, Journee drew a shallow breath softly through her nose. She wasn't exactly sure what sort of answer she was expecting from Tiana, but she didn't expect that...Not in such a profound tone at least.

Hardly in control of her body's actions, she brought the hand that rested on the bed behind them to Tiana's waist. Neither of them looked away as her hand slid under the woman's shirt, allowing her fingers to give a tender caress to her bare skin. At that moment, Tiana could hardly think, nor breathe regularly. It was no better the minute Journee's other hand slid up her bare thigh, given she wore shorts. A trail of heat burned under Journee's gliding touch, having Tiana's eyes falter down so she could bear witness to such a feeling.

Once her attention drew back to the woman, she found Journee's gaze on her lips. And so, Tiana's eyes did the same.

"We shouldn't be doin' this..." she whispered, though hadn't moved nor darted her eyes away.

They watched as the singer whispered back, "I know..."

In an attempt to muster even an ounce of denying strength, Tiana closed her eyes. Though still, she hadn't moved. "We should stop," she whispered again, mostly to herself.

Mirroring her, Journee's eyes shut as well. "I know..."

Between the two of them, the tension within the room could be cut with a knife. With each passing moment, both their hearts pounded as they'd drawn closer, despite their words of protest just seconds ago. They knew they needed to separate now before there was no going back. If only either of them could manage to move even an inch away from each other.
