Originally, it was written in the plot for Journee to pass away in the end. However, I was a big baby about it and just didn't have the heart to, so you're welcome lol."A Blackbird's Serenade" is probably the rawest story I've written, for it hits the closest to the innermost parts of myself and my personal thoughts. Putting it into writing was not easy, but I'm really glad that I did, and that I decided to share it with y'all. I hope it reached anyone who might have felt the same as any of the characters within the book, or related to any of the situations.
As for the theme and tone, I wanted to conduct something with a deep and heavy message while making the hardships and realities of life a beautiful thing, as tragic as it is to deal with sometimes. I wanted to emphasize what it means to be human, what it means to be a woman, what it means to be black, and what it means to be gay. Additionally, I wanted anyone who connected to this story to know that pain is temporary, as is most things in life. And that your purpose matters, even when you think that it doesn't.
This book was inspired by old couples online, and I wondered what their story was in a time where the world around them was a different place. How challenging it must've been to have had such an epic love that you unfortunately had to hide.
Just about every detail in this story was intentional and held underlying meaning. Down to the character's names, the chapter titles, the music, the series of events, and the way they all unfolded. I really hope you all enjoyed this book, for it was my absolute pleasure to write and complete it. As always, thank y'all so much for the love and support.
Yours truly,
Miss Jada Nicole 🤎
