Tiana

"Alright, what's the square root of 169?"

"Thirteen," Journee answered, with more confidence than the first time.

"And the cube root of 27?"

"Three."

At that I smiled, for she'd confidently said nine the first time, and cursed under her breath when I told her that it was wrong. Though I couldn't show it, I found it adorable.

"And which war resulted in the liberation and founding of the United States?"

Across from one another to put a good amount of space between us, I held the papers in hand while quizzing her actively and at random. On my own separate sheet, I marked the ones she got right and those she got wrong, and of which level of difficulty the question was. It helped me figure out what areas to push her in. Although by now, she was excelling in every subject.

"The Revolutionary War."

Challenging her, my brow arched, even though she was right. "You sure it wasn't the War of 1812, or the Civil War?"

Pausing for a moment, Journee then nodded, her hands clasped atop the dining table. "Yes, I'm sure."

Nodding back, I withheld a smirk. "Good. Now, how many bones are in the human body?"

"206." The slight grimace her face made let me know that she wasn't completely sure about that one. And upon noticing, I left a mark in the biology category.

"What's the difference between geography and geology?"

"Geology is the study of rocks and geography revolves around landscape and Earth's physical properties."

"And what's the difference between anthropology and archeology?"

"Archaeology studies human activity and culture through history, mostly ancient history. And anthropology studies human behavior and biology, and their existence in general, in all aspects."

"Was John Adams the first president?" By now, we were going back and forth, and with a quickness that left me smiling on the inside.

"No, he was the second. Washington was the first."

"Alright. What's photosynthesis?"

"The process of plants gaining energy from sunlight."

"And what was the War of 1812 about?"

"It was fought after America's independence from Britain, but it formed relations between them both afterwards, as well as strengthening the United States' establishment as a nation of their own."

"What's 84 divided by 7?"

"Twelve."

Finally, then, I revealed the grin I'd been suppressing, for it was now the end of today's session. And at that, Journee let tension flow from her shoulders with a relieved chuckle of her own upon the proud look on my face.

Standing, for I could walk on my own now, I rounded the table to where she sat.

"All of those were right honey- Remember don't second guess, okay?"

"Okay," Journee responded just before my lips captured hers, assisted by my hand at her chin to tilt her head back.

An adorable smile curled at her lips once I pulled away, though the sight of it lured me in for another.
