PRINCESS DAENYS TARGARYEN IS THE fourth child of King Viserys I Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower. When she was born, a dragon egg was placed inside her cradle as was customary in Targaryen tradition, but it never hatched.
The color of her hair was red, just like her mother's. Her physical traits raised questions about the legitimacy of her birth, since the girl was more Hightower than Targaryen. All of her siblings had been born with white-blond hair and lilac eyes.
The blood of the dragon swam through their veins, whether they rode dragons or not, but Daenys was the spitting image of Alicent, not Viserys.
It caused quite an uproar at court, especially because of Alicent's incessant persecution of Princess Rhaenyra and her children. It would have been an outrage for the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms to reproach her stepdaughter for having extramarital relations, and then mirror her actions. Alicent swore in the names of the Seven that she had never been intimate with any man who was not her husband, and if Viserys believed Rhaenyra, he certainly believed his wife, who rarely failed to show her endless devotion to her King.
