Houses on fire

Have you ever felt your heart beat out of your chest and through every orifice of your body? It's the moment after you get dragged out of a burning building. The moment you realise that the scary situation is over. But your head won't allow you to live outside of that burning building. You keep being placed back between the flames.

I keep being placed in the courtyard, in the common room where Draco latches those 2 boys off of me. It's like I have an adrenaline rush flowing through my body each time I remember his face. How angry he looked when Chuck wouldn't let me go. The way his hair fell over his eyes, overshadowing his face when he broke himself to vulnerability for just a second infront of me.

Now this is the reason why I can't sleep. When the room is so quiet that even my breaths sound loud, I make my escape. I tiptoe down to the common room with a parchment and pen in hand. I sit on one of the couches facing the fire and watch the flames crackle between the wood. I relive the moments I lived in the house on fire. I let the memory of the letter burning to ash in my hand fuel me.

I conjure up a cup of coffee and watch the fire and let every memory of today burn my flesh.

"It's past curfew. You know you're not allowed to be here."

I don't bother looking up to see the person prancing down the stairs like a prince. My gaze stays trapped between the swirls of flames. I tighten my grip on the coffee cup and let out a exhausted sigh.

"Why are you here then?"

"Because I am a perfect, remember?", Draco confidently says.

I hum in response. "So what are you going to do then? Shun me to my room?" I ask taking a sip from my coffee.

"No I don't think that will quite do y/n. How about I get to apologize to you first then send you back to your room?" Draco says as he sits beside me.

He smells fresh with soap and leather and lemon tea and something I would want to wash my blankets in so I can smell it every night to never forget the smell.

"There's no need", I reassure him ," I'm used to it. When I'm not invisible then I'm a pinboard for anything not good", My voice is steady as I speak, showing no hint of the hurt his words actually inflicted on me.

"Just, just let me apologize to you"

I still don't look at him.

"Okay."

Draco takes a deep breath," Can you atleast look at me?"

"No."

"Now that won't do , y/n." He says disappointed. Like I owe it to him.

I want to look at him. To see how his crystal blue eyes will reflect on the fire light, how his hair would glow between the flickers of the flame, the shadows that will cast upon his cheeks. I want to see him, witness a part of him that no one gets to see. I also don't want to give him what he wants. That will defeat the whole purpose of this situation.

"Just look at me so I can do this whole stupid apology thing right."
