Headlights

I feel asif I'm a dear in head lights, being caught off guard like this. He knew. Of course he fucking knew.

"Your coat l/n?," Someone asks.

I snap out of my trans but just barely. Turning away from Draco I give staff member my jacket. I use this time to collect myself. I'm not a teenager anymore,my emotions aren't everywhere all of the time. They're here, present with me, layed out on the patterned carpet.

Confusion.
Shock.
Anger for being deceived.
Deja vu.
Feelings from a little girl years ago that I immediately shove back down to the past where it belongs.
And something else I can't quite place.

I straighten my spine turn around and face the strangers.

"Will someone tell me what I'm doing here?"  I huff in annoyance.

Everyone seems a little dumbfounded at my question. A raise a brow at them, but avoid the man of the hour's eyes, which I can feel piercing down onto my face. I have resolved alot of things from my times at Hogwarts. Draco Malfoy wasn't one of them.

"Take a seat first."

I'm met with young green eyes looking at me asif I might have a fright. He seems in his early twenties, brown hair combed neatly back. Even so, as young as he might me, he looks to be one of the men with the most power in this room. With a stif nod, I sit down at the table with 20 or so chairs stacked neatly around it. The rest fallow suit after. Draco sits lastly. He walks across the room like the floor is his stage and it's his solo act. He doesn't hesitate, doesn't waver as he takes the final seat infront of me. My eyes fallow him and our eyes fully meet, for the first time since I walked into this room.

Draco looks at me with a level headed gase. 'This is just a business transaction for him.' I have to remind myself as those blue eyes drag across my face.

It's been so long since I've studied and learnt those eyes, the way that they moved, how the light flickered off of them and what lay behind them. Yet after all this time, I know exactly what's going through his thoughts. The low burn of the lights lights his irises alive. He's studying me. How I've changed over the years. The shape of my eyelashes, the curve of my cheeks and as his eyes flickers down, the way my lips are stretched into a rehearsed line.

"It was you, wasn't it?", I ask, my question pointed directly at Draco.

No obvious signs are shown as he answers, "Yes."

"Why are there so many people here then?", I push.

"Why are you so curious?", Draco says, enjoying the tension building up between us. This man loves nothing more than a challenge. Some things never change.

"I'm here because of you. I'm allowed to be curious."

"Why did you agree to this meeting?"

He's derailing the conversation. I frown.

"Why did you ask for this meeting?"

"Enough. This is foolish.", A sharp voice cuts through the room.

My neck snaps to the voice. It's the same man from earlier. It's strange how his voice carries through a room.

"We are here simply for mister Malfoy's protection.", He informs me.

"He doesn't need protecting from me."

"She's right.", Draco cuts in and looks at the man," If she had wanted to do damage she'd already have done it. You can leave."

Without another word, they walk out of the room. Once everyone was finally out, I lock eyes with Draco again.

"Why did you run?", He asks.
