Choi Yeonah had changed a lot since the last ten years. Not only physically, where she had reached a proud 1.81 meters, but also in her personality she had matured and become more feminine. Outwardly, there was hardly any resemblance between her and her mother Areum. Although both had monolid eyes, the eldest daughter's eyes were narrower and more reminiscent of the expression of a dozing cat. Although Yeonah shared Sooji's full lips, their mouths differed in volume and sensuality. Overall, Yeonah had grown into an extremely attractive young woman who often tried to conceal her beauty with a messy hairstyle and casual, worn-out clothes.
With her changed appearance, a completely different character had grown up in Yeonah. The childish jealousy towards her stepfather - who had only had his funeral three months ago - and her stepsister Gumi had completely disappeared.
At the age of 24, Yeonah was now considered the eldest daughter in the house and had great responsibilities. She had to look after her sister Gumi, especially now that they had recently lost their head of the family. Nevertheless, her relationship with Sooji was still closer than with Gumi.
Especially since they had recently lost the head of their family. Nevertheless, their relationship with Sooji was still a little closer than with Gumi.
The 24-year-old Yeonah had also lost her interest in magazines and even boys after finding out how immature and unreliable men could sometimes be when she came of age. Instead of putting on make-up and going to parties, Yeonah preferred to concentrate on her architecture studies.
After preparing breakfast, as her mother Areum was already at work, Yeonah went up to Sooji's room. She was still sleeping soundly and had probably even forgotten to set her alarm clock.
"Sooji, wake up!" Yeonah whispered gently, approached the bed and gave her sister a slap on the butt.
Sooji responded with a grumble.
Yeonah then quietly enters Gumi's room. The room was simply furnished, with cream-colored walls and a cozy carpet on the floor. In the middle of the room was Gumi's bed, on which she was still snuggled up asleep. Yeonah's gaze automatically lingered on the framed photo of Choi Eun on the bedside table and the painful tugging in Yeonah's chest spoke up again. The picture showed him smiling and his eyes radiated warmth. It hurt to know that they would never see their stepfather again. He had been a good man.
A really good father.
And Yeonah felt especially sorry for Gumi, because the now 22-year-old girl had not only lost her mother, but also her father. Gumi was an orphan and that must have been unimaginably difficult for her.
With a deep sigh, Yeonah walked quietly through the room until she squatted down next to the bed. She gently poked Gumi's cheek and said in a warm, compassionate tone, "Good morning. Breakfast is ready."
Gumi didn't move at first. She just lay there and kept her eyes closed, even though she had been awake when Yeonah had prepared breakfast. She didn't really feel like getting up, especially since today was a big day for her.
