It was a chance.

This competition was a chance for Gumi to be accepted to the university of her dreams. If she entered the competition and won, she would have the opportunity to study. Her attention was so focused on Taehyun's words that she didn't realize how he was looking at her with interest and waiting.

In her head, she was already imagining what it would be like to finally be able to study at this university and pursue her passion, just like Taehyun did.

"Gumi?" Taehyun asked quietly, because she still didn't respond.

Gumi was startled and shook her body as if she had been struck by lightning. "Sorry," came out of her and she stroked her hair back in embarrassment. "I got lost in my thoughts for a moment. What was your question?"

She felt really uncomfortable that she hadn't heard the last few sentences of his story.

"It's okay," Taehyun said with a smile, wondering if it was something he had said. Or whether the topic had been so boring that her thoughts were drifting away from him. But he immediately took the opportunity to rephrase his question: "What were you thinking about?"

Gumi merely waved him off; after all, she didn't want him to think that she wanted to apply to the same university but hadn't managed to introduce herself. "Sometimes my mind wanders, but I haven't... thought of anything important. And when is this competition taking place?"

Taehyun thoughtfully took a sip of his coffee. The question didn't surprise him, it just seemed polite, but he rather wished that he could find out something personal about Gumi and so the black-haired boy regretted not asking directly. "I guess in about three weeks. They still have some preparations to make," Taehyun answered her question politely. "But there's definitely a lot of publicity about it. What about you? Are you studying at a university or working here full-time?"

"I only work here in the afternoons," she finally began, flashing him a satisfied smile. Even though it was sometimes exhausting, she liked working here. "But I'm working towards becoming a songwriter. That's why I find people who express themselves through music very remarkable."

She couldn't keep it to herself, especially because it was such a big part of her life.

Surprise and curiosity showed on Taehyun's face.

"Songwriter?" he repeated, the corners of his mouth twitching in amusement. "It really is a nice profession to express yourself," Taehyun agreed with the girl, but the hint of a smile disappeared again. He himself had stopped writing songs that came from his soul a long time ago. "I wish you much success. Maybe we can work on an album together sometime," Taehyun tried to steer the topic in a cheerful direction.

But Gumi had already noticed how much sadness was hidden in his undertone.

"I can imagine that there's a lot of pressure with your job," she then said, resting her chin on her hand, "and you probably feel that pressure when you're writing songs."
