15. Arguments

When I woke up in the morning the sun was shining into the room and I was the only one left in the room. I got up as quickly as I could and ran downstairs. Niall, Jake and Payton were in deep conversation. There was fresh bread in a basket on the table. I could hear yelling and screaming in the distance. Niall looked up at me.

"We left some breakfast for you." he said, pointing at the bread.

"Why didn't you wake me up, where is everyone else and who is yelling?" I asked while buttering a slice of bread.

"We felt you needed your rest after your journey, everyone else is out in the fields, practising on our scarecrows except for Rose who has gone to the market and I think you are the only one who can hear the yelling." Payton explained, smiling.

"Right." I said when he didn't explain further. I picked up my sword and slice of bread and went out to join the others. The yelling was coming from them but I couldn't see them because the crop was too tall. I knew it was them though because I heard Taylor's voice yelling "Why?"

As started to walk towards them I heard the clashes of blades. Last time I checked, scarecrows didn't have swords. I ran through the field towards the sounds of the blades. I was nearly there when the crop rustled next to me and I spotted Emma and Eve dragging an unconcious Charlie back towards the house.

"What happened?" I questioned them.

"He flirted with Ellen, the blond girl." Eve explained. "She punched him in the face. One hit was all it took."

"She shouldn't have hurt him though! Now there's a fight. Ruth, Taylor, Kelsey and Clara versus Ellen... Bethany and Aisling, I think." Emma continued. "Please Ruth, take them all down. So that all of us from Drogheda don't look weak after what just happened to Charlie."

"I'll see what I can do." I assured them. "Get him back to the house." I unsheathed my sword and walked out into the clearing. The fighting paused when they saw me. A girl (it wasn't Ellen. This girl had brown hair and blue eyes) had Taylor in a headlock, another girl (who also wasn't Ellen. She had brown hair and brown eyes) had just dodged a kick that Ruth had aimed at her and Kelsey,Clara and Ellen both had their hands on each others shoulders.

"Jade, show them how to really fight." Taylor gasped.

"Yes, show us all how great Jade Oaks really is!" sneered the girl who had dodged the kick. The girl holding Taylor let her go and she fell to the ground, unconscious after lack of air. Ruth, Clara and Kelsey ran over to her but the three girls made a triangle around me, pointing their weapons at me.

I didn't know why my friends expected me to beat these girls, after all four of them hadn't. But I still raised my sword, ready for the fight to begin.
