16. Bonds

I knew they were going to strike at the same time so I threw myself to the ground and rolled out of the triangle. They had all tried to stab me and clashed their swords together so hard that they dropped them. I kicked them over towards my friends and they picked them up and threw them into the field so that Ellen, Bethany and Aisling couldn't find them. But they didn't give up and I kept going.

I felt something inside me, something I've never felt before. I knew how the girls were going to attack before they actually did. This meant that I was able to counter-attack. The fight was over quickly. Ellen, Bethany and Aisling lay panting on the ground but I wasn't even tired. Ruth, Clara, Kelsey and Taylor (who had regained consciousness) were staring at me with open mouths. Behind them Payton was smiling as if he had known this was going to happen. I sheathed my sword. Nobody spoke. It was really awkward.

"Um...well you did ask for it." Kelsey told Ellen and her friends who were still on the ground.

"How did you fight like that?" Ruth asked me. I shrugged my shoulders.

"I know." Payton said. "It's kind of hard to explain though."

"Please try." I asked.

"When a person is born. They are born with a kind of bond with another type of animal. They have an ability that links them with that animal and they can communicate with it as well. It is usually quite hard to figure out what your bond is, sometimes you need to discover an item or another thing that links into your life." he explained.

"How come I've never heard of this before? Do you know what my bond is?" I questioned.

"Question one, the answer is, this knowledge has been forgotten over the years. Only some people still know about it. Question two, yes, yours is a wolf."

"A wolf! But I've never even seen a wolf before!" I exclaimed. Payton sighed.

"You have. I was there."
