Excerpt:
The frigid air batters her worn features, her tear stained cheeks reddened by her upset and mother nature. It's clear to the passersby that offer a glance that tonight, she's faced a terrible loss. What perhaps? A loved one? Maybe a pet or job, possibly even her home. Why am I so unlovable? So unwanted? Amira couldn't understand the cruelness of the world, of her fate. The one man that was supposed to love her, couldn't even stand the thought of them. Of a future together.
Cody, the man she had been waiting for, even praying to take her away from the cruel, mundane and abusive world she knew, said words that would change her forever.
'What are you?' He asked with a cold tone, with the coldest brown eyes that Amira's ever seen. The disgust that was apparent there made shivers of fear rack her spine. He's our mate, why does he look at us that way? Her wolf Charise whined to her, pain in her heart swelled more as Cody growled lowly, expecting an answer.
'I-I'm Beta Bryan's daughter.' She answered as her cheeks flushed miserably with shame, even if her father was a strong Beta wolf and her mother a strong warrior she was the runt of the litter, the Omega of the pack.
'Beta blood?' Cody snarled as his eyes glimmered with black obsidian shards 'Pathetic, disgrace of Beta blood, wasted on you.' Even as she walked down the street, miles away she could still hear his snarls, Charise still whined at his words.
'B-but, Cody-' She tried to plead with him only to have his hand wrap around her throat and pin her to the wall, tightening as his claws elongated to sharpened talons.
'I didn't give you permission to call me by name!' Amira's glimmering violet orbs shone with unshed tears, the sadness giving away to fear, terror more like it. She had never heard of a mate laying a hand on another, not in an abusive manner. B-but mate! Never has she ever felt such betrayal as he snarled.
'I'm so-sorry?' Amira didn't know what to say, what to think, the Omega in her had her wanting to submit to her mate, he wasn't even of much power. His status in the Forest Guardians pack was average, he was a warrior on the weekends, and a college student during the week.
'Pitiful excuse for a she-wolf. I don't think I even need to say this, but I, Cody James reject you as my mate, don't come near me.' His eyes flashed for a brief moment, the green orbs of his wolf flashed with pain as he growled lowly. A clear fight between the pair, she swallowed harshly, his hand tightened, drawing blood and choking her more. A soft, pitiful gasp slipped past her lips as they quiver, her tears coat her cheeks freely.
'N-no, pl-please do-' She gasped with a weak plea, her hands shook as she tried to salvage something that never would be. With a growl his hand released his hold on her throat as he stepped back, the woods around them silent, the edge of town hiding them. A fake luxury of privacy barely able to be obtained. Her clothes snag on the rough bark of the tree he had her pressed into.
'Don't, I don't want a mutt like you staining my blood line, I want strong heirs, not something birthed from you.' She cried silently, her body shook, vibrating with pain filled tremors. Small scratches littered her back as she slid down the trunk, her legs unable to support her as pain ripped through her body. A hole was torn through her body, the pain of rejection thrust a hole into her heart.
The memory of it all throbbed the open wound as she stood on the street corner her eyes glanced around and pushed her freshly tousled brown hair over her shoulder. Amira couldn't care if there were leaves or bark or any other debris left in what she was sure looked like a rat's nest of a ponytail at this point. Why? I don't understand, I know I can be a good mate... We'll be good.
She grew up listening to the kids her age doubting her, she didn't understand why they disliked her and Charise. 'Omega! Omega! Look at the Omega! Failing at gym! Can't play dodgeball! Failing your tests.' The chants of the kids reverberate in her head, her normal pessimistic mood now abysmal. Why am I not liked?
Her eighteenth birthday had passed, so had her nineteenth and twentieth, she was already late to find her mate only to be rejected. The silver moonlight caught her attention as it shimmered in the puddles on the street. Why bother? Why bother staying? It's a question she's visited before, made herself distraught over if she's honest with herself. Amira didn't feel welcomed, wanted or loved. I'm hated, not wanted and clearly no one would care if I left.
