JO AND ALEX HAD BEEN BACK and forth to lawyer after lawyer trying to find the best to win custody over Sadie, Jonah and Lydia. They eventually picked someone. She was a well-experienced family court lawyer and was completely positive they would get full custody of all three kids.
Jo and Alex had temporary custody at this point. But they just had this amazing family dynamic going on. They couldn't imagine life without them anymore.
Being surgeons, especially Jo being a resident, life was obviously extremely full but they wouldn't have had it any other way.
The kids had been spending a night or two a week at Maya and Carina's place which was super helpful and they all enjoyed.
Alex loved really getting to know Sadie. She had missed out on so much and they had missed out on loving her. So they had tried to spend a lot of their time with her doing fun kid things she hadn't even heard of before.
But some good news. They did have a court date for the next week, however, they were yet to tell Sadie.
They knew she would be excited, the idea of them all being a real family. A family where the state couldn't just decide to move them to a different home just because they can. A Family that didn't live in fear of biological parents resurfacing. A family that can focus on loving each other rather than what could come next.
And to be able to give Sadie that stability was all they could have wished for in these last few months.
Though this court date wasn't for adoption that was the end goal for Jo and Alex. They'd had these three amazing kids walk into their life and all they wanted was to call them theirs.
They still needed to make sure this was what Sadie wanted though. After all, she had acted as a single parent to these toddlers their entire lives and letting Jo and Alex take over hadn't been easy in the slightest.
They knew she enjoyed living with them, they could just tell in the way she had livened up since the day they met her when she stumbled into the ER drenched in her misfortune but they still knew it was important for her the be in control of her living situation after all her years of abuse. So today was the day they would make sure living with them was exactly what she wanted.

IT WAS AROUND 9 AM ON Sunday morning when Alex and Jo decided it was time to wake Sadie and have a long conversation about what was to come for their family.
Jo gently tapped her knuckles on Sadie's bedroom door before peeping her head around the shadowed gap of the ajar wood to find Sadie still fast asleep cutely wrapped up in her covers while star-fished across her double bed.
Jo turned around pressing her finger to her lip at Alex before tiptoeing into the room and gently perching on the edge of Sadie's bed. She gently stroked back the girl's sweat-ridden hair from her forehead causing her to stir. She placed a gentle kiss on her cheek before sitting back and watching as the preteen fluttered her lashes before opening her eyes and sleepily glaring at Jo.
"Good morning sunshine," She whispered playing with the girl's golden brown strands.
In response, Sadie just growned earning a chuckle from Jo before she finally decided to sit up against her bed frame and humour the doctor who she had grown to love these past months of being in her care.
"Me and Uncle Alex want to talk to you, do you want to come downstairs and I'll make you breakfast while we chat?" Jo asked gently.
Sadie just nodded, not having woken up enough to reply, as she pulled the covers off of herself and stood up.
Jo just chuckled at her pulling her into a hug which was quickly reciprocated by the grumpy yet loving preteen.

"Okay so Uncle Alex and I have some pretty big news sunshine," Jo started.
"As you know we love having you stay with us and we want to make that permanent so we have been looking for lawyers and we have found one we think will suit us in being granted complete legal custody of you, Jonah and Lydia," Alex continued.
"Really? You want to keep us forever and ever and ever?" Sadie squeaked excitement creeping into her voice.
"Of course we do princess, which is why we wanted to tell you we have a court date for two weeks after Christmas to make it official." Jo finished.
"Omg I can't wait!"
"Neither can we," Alex smiled "but we do need to tell you something really serious. Because your father is denying ever laying hands on you the court wants you to testify against him,"
"Testify?" Sadie's small voice questioned.
"It means you would have to stand before the court and tell everyone what he did to you sunshine," Jo explains.
"Oh,"
"I know it sounds scary but it would definitely help and it is totally your decision" Alex added.
"So just take your time and think about it, we will be here no matter what you decide," Jo finished encasing her in a hug.
"No I want to," Sadie stood back to look at them, "I want everyone to know what he did to me and I want him to know that I hate him," she sniffled holding back tears.
"Okay sweetheart okay" Jo smiled at her gently before scooping her into a hug once more.
In spirit of the Grey's Anatomy season 21 premire, I thought I would get off my ass and post something. I hope you enjoy chapter 16 of princess,
