"So.. this escalated quickly." Minho said flatly, staring at Changbin's sleeping form on the basement floor.
"Yep." Felix responded, rocking on his heels gently.
"And you didn't plan this?" Hyunjin queried, leaning against the staircase railing.
"Not quite." Felix nodded.
"And Chan's okay with this?" Minho glanced over to the brunet, who was biting his thumbnail.
"I think." Chan responded, eyeing his former friend intently.
In the heat of the moment, with little options, Chan and Felix were on the same page that they should hold on to Changbin while he was torpid. Now that the initial rush of urgency had passed, naturally Chan was rethinking things.
But, he was also embracing being a vampire, which meant he had to lean in to tough decisions with a more tactical approach. It made more sense to keep him here, especially when he himself admitted the amount of information he held against them.
"Should we like.. get him water?" Hyunjin asked, cocking his head slightly.
While it was Hyunjin's first time back in the basement since his turning, he was much more outwardly calm about it. But that was classic Hyunjin - freak out about little things, and hold the things that truly affected him deeper inside. For now, focusing on the task at hand was just enough to ignore the horrors the walls held within them.
"He's not a dog." Jisung laughed, turning to face the taller.
"Yeah but like, humans need water, idiot." Hyunjin defended, tone hinting at playful.
"Humans also have mouths that can speak and communicate needs." Jisung replied back, shooting Hyunjin a look. "When he wakes up we can get him water if he needs it."
"Why not just have it now, save him asking-"
"Jesus, guys, stop arguing about water." Minho rolled his eyes, turning to Hyunjin. "I can tell you're trying your best to focus on something other than the obvious, so maybe just go upstairs and breathe for a second."
"I'm fine." Hyunjin responded, crossing his arms.
"Hyun, let's go grab Changbin some water." Felix said, tone softer than it was nervous, as he began to guide the taller up the stairs.
When they got to the top, and exited through the doorway, Hyunjin felt his knees wobble slightly.
"Fuck." He sighed, leaning against the opposite wall.
"Not great, huh?" Felix asked, placing his hand in Hyunjin's.
"Not really." He let out a shaky laugh. "I thought I was fine when I got down there, but the longer I spent, the more I felt.."
"Trapped?"
"Captured."
Felix nodded slowly, squeezing his best friend's hand tightly for a moment before releasing.
"I cried when I first went back down there, it still physically hurts to stand in the room." Felix almost whispered, voice soft but wary. "But we're not prisoners down there now. We're not weak humans with no way out anymore."
"Yeah." Hyunjin nodded, swallowing. "Feels kind of fucked up that we have someone down there now, though."
Felix nodded, blinking.
"We're not treating Changbin how that fucker Jeoban treated us. We're keeping him there because we don't have a choice, and we need information. We're more.. humane."
