Although there were some minor incidents, the night passed quickly.
I woke up at dawn to a radiant sun casting golden sunlight. The air in the forest, fresh from the rain, greeted me as I glanced around. Everyone was still asleep.
Carefully pushing Su Jie, who was close to me, aside, I walked to the cave entrance. Just as I was about to step out, Su Jie called from behind, "You're awake. Where are you going?"
"I'm going outside to check the situation and find some food for you all," I replied while walking out of the cave.
The small hill where the cave was located was relatively high, but the nearby forest was tall and dense, obscuring the view. I still couldn't see the conditions of the mountain near the beach.
I decided to head towards the beach.
Not far into my walk, I saw the sea. It seemed my guess was correct; yesterday's tide did indeed flood the trees near the beach.
"Who knows when this tide will recede?" I muttered to myself, picking wild fruits nearby and contemplating ways to stay warm.
"Our cave is too airy. We can make a wooden gate with some hay stuffing to block the wind," I thought, having picked quite a few wild fruits. I returned to the cave.
As I entered the cave, I found everyone awake, but to my surprise, Su Jie and the others were giving me strange looks, their expressions serious.
"Why are you all looking at me like that?" I was puzzled.
"Xiaowei, tell us the truth. Where did you get this?" Su Jie, with a pale face, looked at me holding something. She spoke hesitantly.
Looking at what Su Jie held in her hand, I suddenly felt uneasy.
At this moment, Su Jie was holding the work ID of the rescue team member. Su Jie had probably guessed that I found it on the corpse yesterday. However, unwilling to accept this result, she decided to ask me again.
The others were also staring at me with unpleasant expressions, especially Huyijian. He said darkly, "What's going on? Explain clearly, or I won't let you off!"
"This, Su Jie, you know about it. It's from the corpse we found on the beach yesterday. I didn't tell you because I was afraid you'd worry," I said to Su Jie, ignoring Huyijian. "Because of a plane crash in the sea, it's normal for people to die. However, the rescue team members are professionals. They brought various specialized equipment, so how could anything go wrong?" Su Jie, who often camped outdoors and had some knowledge of plants, probably noticed that the vegetation on this island was strange and not typical of a tropical area.
"Don't worry too much. Maybe things aren't as serious as we think. Maybe Xiaorong is right. We'll be rescued soon," I comforted Su Jie while handing them the wild fruits.
Xiaorong had eaten very little yesterday, and by now, she was nearly faint from hunger. Seeing the food I offered, they couldn't help but cheer up and quickly started eating.
After getting their fill, Xiaorong's eyes softened again as she looked at me.
In my heart, I thought, "Now you should understand where the difference lies between me and that boastful waste, Huyijian, right?"
"Now, the most important thing is for us to survive. Only by staying alive can we wait for rescue. Later, we can go around the island again to see if there are any traces left by other rescue teams."
I concluded, handing them the wild fruits.
After eating, the atmosphere seemed to improve slightly. Su Jie forced a smile, while Huyijian secretly glared at me with resentment.I figured he was thinking about how to deal with me once we left the deserted island.
