I listened and suddenly felt even more wronged than Dou E! "I was just saving someone, how did I become a big pervert and villain in Xu Xiaorong's eyes?" Although a bit frustrated, I couldn't entirely blame her this time; after all, the situation was easily misunderstood.
"Don't be so hasty. Xiaoyue was bitten by a snake, and I'm helping her detoxify!" I explained with some helplessness.
Xu Xiaorong initially intended to call people to judge me as a criminal, but upon hearing my explanation, she stood still. Examining Xiaoyue carefully, she noticed the snakebite wound on her waist. At that moment, Xu Xiaorong's pretty face turned red.
"Well... sorry, I misunderstood you again..." Xu Xiaorong apologized stutteringly, feeling a bit wronged. She muttered, "This bumpkin always manages to make me misunderstand. It's always my fault..."
"Never mind. Since you sincerely apologize, I forgive you." I waved my hand, feeling that the atmosphere had eased. Then, I picked up the still-dazed Li Lin and headed towards the cave.
Xu Xiaorong followed behind. Seeing Li Lin's pale face, clearly still shaken, she also began to feel guilty. Concerned, she asked, "Weige, is Li Lin okay? Is it serious?"
"Should be fine, just frightened, in poor mental condition. Also, there's still some toxin in her system that hasn't been completely cleared. A couple of days of rest should do the trick!" I replied with a smile.
Hearing this, Xu Xiaorong sighed in relief, muttering to herself, "Thank goodness she's okay; otherwise, I would have blamed myself forever."
I carried Li Lin back to the cave. Su Jie, upon hearing that she had been bitten by a snake, was also startled. After checking the wound and confirming that I had handled it well, she breathed a sigh of relief. I laid Li Lin by the campfire, and soon, she fell into a deep sleep.
Li Lin's encounter had given everyone quite a shock. This deserted island was full of dangers. Fortunately, it was Bamboo Green this time; what about the next? The atmosphere became somewhat gloomy.
Knowing that a low mood wasn't beneficial, I thought about what I could do or say to lift everyone's spirits. While contemplating, I continued with the tasks at hand. I placed two young bamboo shoots on the fire and watched them gradually dry.
Su Jie, looking puzzled, asked, "Xiaowei, what are you doing? What's the use of roasting these bamboo shoots?"
"Hehe, just wait and see. I guarantee you won't guess!" I said mysteriously.
My mysterious appearance attracted everyone's attention. Qianyi looked at me thoughtfully, while Xu Xiaorong, although disdainful, couldn't help but be curious, muttering, "Really playing mysterious!"
Despite her dismissive tone, Xu Xiaorong was secretly intrigued, staring at me intently, eager to see what trick I was up to.
After drying the bamboo shoots, I used a fire axe to split the tops, creating a cross-shaped opening. Then, I crisscrossed two pieces of bamboo into the gap and used some wooden sticks as support. Soon, a makeshift bamboo door was ready. I secured the processed reeds onto the bamboo door with some iron wire, and in no time, the entire bamboo door became airtight. Moreover, the reeds on the bamboo door were neatly arranged, looking quite aesthetic.
My father used to be a bamboo craftsman in the village, specializing in splitting bamboo to make strips, which he then wove into various items such as backpacks, sifters, baskets, and even steamers. Every time there was a local fair, he would take these products to the town to sell. It was precisely because of this skill that, despite being illiterate, my father's economic status in the village was considered relatively well-off. This circumstance allowed me the opportunity to go to town for schooling, and later on, I even managed to attend university. I've learned a bit of this craft from my father, although lacking specialized tools, I can't split bamboo into exceptionally fine strips. Nevertheless, I can manage to make some bamboo strips of finger thickness. I arranged these bamboo strips in a crisscross pattern, shaping them into a frame, and then shaved a few wooden sticks to serve as supports. Soon, a simple bamboo door was crafted. Using iron wire, I secured the processed reeds onto the bamboo door one by one, and quickly, the entire bamboo door became airtight. The reeds on the bamboo door were neatly arranged, resembling a form of artistic beauty, making it quite visually appealing.
I finished this contraption in no time, and Su Jie and Xu Xiaorong were amazed, especially Xu Xiaorong, who was astonished. She muttered, "I didn't expect you, this country bumpkin, to be so skilled. What a crafty hand!"
I smiled in response, "There are many things about me that you can't imagine."
"Hmph, don't get too proud!" Although she spoke disdainfully, Xu Xiaorong, seeing my joy, felt a bit displeased and grumbled.
Now, with my impromptu bamboo door in place, the mood lightened a bit. Everyone gathered around the campfire, and I decided to share some stories to divert our minds from the island's dangers.
