Maia's first night back at Hogwarts was as fine as it could've been. She didn't spend time in the common room like she would've usually done. She went straight up to her dorm, tired of everyones words about her and her father. Maia keeps that little thought in her head still. The part of her that is still thinking her father is innocent.

Maia pulled off her school robes, folding them up neatly near her bed. In her undergarments, she stopped and looked at the full body mirror, only looking at her face. Her mind flashed to that picture of her father in all of the newspapers. When her fellow students looked at her, that's what they would see. They wouldn't see her. She shook the thoughts out of her head and pulled on her green pajamas, as Astoria walked in the dorm.

"Well that was complete shit! Warrington is still a prick!" she exclaimed, snapping Maia out of her dozed off state.

"What'd he do now?" Maia said, paying complete attention to her best friend now.

"This absolute wanker told basically all of Slytherin house that he took my virginity! Can you believe?!" Astoria flopped onto her bed.

"But- didn't he?" Maia replied, tilting her head a bit.

"That's the problem! I trusted him enough with that! Ugh!" Maia came and laid next to Astoria, letting her rant to her, until the two eventually fell asleep.

---

A couple days later was their first DADA lesson, and Maia didn't know what to expect, especially with the new teacher, who was apparently her "Uncle Moony," whatever that meant.

She entered the Great Hall that morning and walked to the Slytherin table, sitting down across from her cousin, who had a sling around his arm.

"Does it hurt terribly, Draco?" Pansy Parkinson said with a look of pity.

Draco continued talking about his "injury" from the hippogriff, making everyone around him pay attention to him.

"Fuckin' drama queen." Maia muttered, as she finished her breakfast.

She walked with Astoria to the DADA classroom. She was nervous about how her interactions with Professor Lupin would go, but she pushed majority of the feelings back. And of course she had the Weasleys in her class! She scoffed when she saw Fred and George leaning by the windows as she walked in. Then, she saw Professor Lupin, standing next to a large wardrobe.

"Right! Gather 'round boys and girls!" Everyone stepped closer to the wardrobe, before it started to wobble and bang around, causing everyone to jump back in fear. "Nothing to worry about, there is only a boggart in there." Professor Lupin continued.

"Wicked." Fred and George muttered in unison.

Maia looked at Astoria who was admiring Professor Lupin, before rolling her eyes and smacking her on the arm, causing the two to laugh.

"Boggarts enjoy closed spaces like this. This particular one moved in just yesterday, and I asked Professor Dumbledore if it could be left, so I could use it to give my students some practice." Lupin smiled. "Now, the first and most important question, what is a boggart?"

A Gryffindor student who Maia was not familiar with raised her hand. "They're shapeshifters. They take the form of what they believe will frighten a person most."

"Correct! 5 points to Gryffindor! Nobody knows what a boggart actually looks like because of this. There is a simple charm to repel the boggart, but still requires a force of mind. Now, repeat after me. Riddikulus!" Lupin goes on.

"Riddikulus!" the class replies.

Maia could hear the Weasley twins snickering behind her. She turned around to them. "You two are being *ridiculous.*" she mutters, before turning her attention back to Lupin.

"What will really get to a boggart is laughter! Really keep that in mind!"

As Lupin says that, Fred gives Maia a smirk, and she rolls her eyes at him.

"Alright! Form a single file line, we will take turns! Ms. Greengrass why don't you start us off!"

Astoria's boggart turned into a large dragon with extremely sharp teeth, and Astoria went pale. "R-riddikulus!" as she cast the spell, its flames turned into a bunch of balloons and the class roared with laughter.

The line kept going , the fears ranging from snakes and spiders to a man in a cloak, who was assumed to be Voldemort, but that one would change into the funnier things, all until it was Maia's turn. Maia was laughing and smiling until the boggart started to change. She blinked, and then in front of her stood a man with dark brown, messy, shoulder length hair, covered in tattoos, and prisoner clothing on. Maia lost all color in her face as her eyes went wide. It all got worse when the boggart began speaking, the class went quiet.

"My beautiful daughter! Just as malicious as I hoped you'd be. Just like dear old dad, huh? Join me." the boggart began pointing a wand at her, as Professor Lupin's eyes went wide.

As he was about to intervene, Maia clutched her wand tightly, trying to slow down her breathing. "Riddikulus." she said with a lack of emotion.

"Stronger, Maia, you've got this." Lupin assured her.

"Riddikulus!" Maia shouted.

The boggart changed from her father to a large black dog, barking and chasing its tail, and the class' laughter was a bit more awkward now. With a flick of his wand, Lupin sent the boggart back into the wardrobe.

"Yes well- that is enough for today! Class dismissed!" Lupin exclaimed, clasping his hands together. "Maia- stay here for a bit, will you?" he muttered.

"Go ahead, Tori, I'll be there in a sec." Maia nodded to Astoria.

---

Maia was led into Lupin's office, the silence was too loud.

"This is about my boggart isn't it?" Maia breaks it.

"Sort of. Maia, what do you know about your parents?" Lupin asked her.

"What do *you* know about my parents?" she retaliates, until Lupin gives her a look in return. "Right, sorry. Uhm- my uncle tells me my mother was a muggle born, but that's all he really says. And I know my father was blamed for the murder of Lily and James Potter, as well as 12 muggles, and has been locked up in Azkaban for the past 12 years, and he's apparently insane, according my uncle."

"Yes well, your uncle always had a lot to say, hm?" Lupin rolled his eyes a bit.

Maia kind of snickered a bit. "Professor-?"

"Remus."

Maia looked up at him, before nodding, "Remus- Can you tell me about them? My parents, I mean. I know you knew my father- so perhaps you'd have a better perspective."

"Right. Okay- Your mother was Henrietta Carter. She was a muggle born but she was quite bright. Placed into Ravenclaw as well. I had studied with her a couple times, but that seemed to be the limit of our friendship. Even then, she was very kind. Her and Pa- Sirius never really fancied each other, but they were good friends. When she got pregnant with you- she was very persistent on keeping you. Wanted to give you the best life she could. Strong woman, Henrietta was. I was very honored when she agreed with Sirius to make me your godfather." Remus sighed.

Maia felt tears prick her eyes, but she immediately pushed them away. "Godfather?"

"Oh- oh dear you probably weren't ready for that one, I apologize Maia-"

Maia sat down near him. "Tell me more. Please."

Remus nodded. "Of course- whatever you want to hear."
