(bit of a filler chapter but its okay)

The weeks went by, and some of Maia's free time was spent talking to Professor Lupin. She rather enjoyed her time with him more than walking the halls, only to have whispers and comments thrown at her. They'd grown quite close, a relationship one should have with their godfather. A relationship that could've happened years ago, if not for the ministry. Remus told her that he tried but the ministry claimed that it was too dangerous, and living with her relatives was more logical. Maia very much disliked that answer. So much, that she wrote a letter to her aunt. A rather distasteful letter.

Auntie Cissy

Hogwarts has been okay. Though, it would've been nice to know that my new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was my godfather, don't you think? I don't think I'll ever understand why you would keep such a thing from me. Remus Lupin. He's rather wonderful, and has a lot more to say about my father than Uncle Lucius. My mother too. Kinder words, rather than referring to her as "that mudblood." I am fairly upset Auntie.

Other than that! I'm fine, Draco's fine. Sort of. He's being a baby about that hippogriff injury, but I know Uncle Lucius is already on business about that whole thing. Classes are fine, I'm doing well in that aspect. First trip to Hogsmeade is soon, I already know you're going to tell me to keep an eye on Draco, but no guarantee.

Love,

Maia E. Black.

"So of course we're heading to Zonko's first- and then we- Maia? Are you listening?"

Maia was looking off into the distance, at the Shrieking Shack. A rather large black dog standing near it, and looking directly at her. Odd.

"Maia!" Astoria snapped her out of her dazed state.

"Sorry- yeah- Zonko's." Maia nodded.

"The Shrieking Shack."

"Frightening thing yeah?"

The two voices came from either side of Maia. It was the red-headed twins again.

"Is your one goal in life to constantly annoy me?" Maia scoffed at the boys.

"Perhaps!" Fred winked.

Maia felt her cheeks heating up, before immediately pushing it away, and rolling her eyes at him.

"Anywho- It's supposedly the scariest building in Britain." George pointed out.

"No- not scariest. Haunted. It's the most haunted building, George." Fred lightly pushed George's shoulder.

"Thought you two shared a brain or something." Astoria began.

"Yeah- the fuck was that?" Maia laughed at them.

"Must've been a glitch!" Astoria continued laughing with Maia.

The two boys actually laughed with them, they could always take a joke.

"So- We heard you're going to Zonko's-" George began.

"Mind if we join you?" Fred finished.

"Damnit- they're back to normal." Astoria snickered.

"We do mind actually! Come on Tori." Maia pulled her along.

"See you there!" the twins yelled in unison.

Maia and Astoria continued walking. Her mind wandered back to the dog staring at her. Hogsmeade didn't have too many strays right? She didn't know why she couldn't stop thinking about it.

"Maia! What is up with you today? You've been zoning out so much. Have you been sleeping?" Astoria snapped her out of the zone again.

"Yeah- Yeah it's all good. I'm fine. I swear." Maia reasurred her best friend.

"Good. Because after Zonko's I say we go to the Three Broomsticks and get a butterbeer. Yeah?" Astoria said.

"Yeah! That sounds great!"

---

Fortunately, they didn't end up seeing the twins in Zonko's, but, their luck was not so great at the Three Broomsticks.

"Merlin's beard." Maia groaned, seeing the two boys walking with butterbeers in their hands.

"Just as I thought we were safe!" Astoria laughed.

Fred caught Maia's eye and smiled at her. He turned towards George again and jerked his head towards their table. George rolled his eyes and said something, she couldn't quite decipher it, but the two walked over again.

"Obsessed with me are you, Weasley?" Maia scoffed, as the two came and pulled up chairs to their table.

"Me? I wasn't the one staring, Black. Like you were begging us to come over here." Fred winked at her.

Maia felt her cheeks heat up, she stumbled over her words. "I- I hate you." she glared at him.

"Mhm." Fred nodded, taking a sip of his butterbeer. "Yes, but you were quite literally falling for me on the train, were you not?"

"That was different, you wanker! You were there on your own account- If it wasn't for that dementor I-"

"You're blushing, Maia." Astoria whispered to her, Fred and George snickering at her anger.

"Ugh!" Maia groaned, before taking one last drink of her butterbeer. "Let's go, Tori. I'm tired anyway."
