Exam season was coming up, meaning O.W.Ls for the fifth years, including Maia. Everyone was studying and working. A lot of time was spent in the library. Even Fred and George were seen studying, which was a very rare occurrence. Maia seemed to always have a book with her these days. She was determined to pass these exams and pass them well.
"I don't know why you're so worried, you always pass your exams!" Astoria said to Maia, gesturing to the book in her hand.
Maia held the book up, revealing the transfiguration textbook.
"Ah- That explains it." Astoria nodded.
"Hey! I'm not that bad!" Maia scoffed at her.
"Maia- in our lesson for turning owls into opera glasses, you turned yours into feathery reading glasses- and it had feet!"
"That was- a misunderstanding!" Maia stuttered.
"A misunderstanding of what?! Maia I love you but you are not the best at transfiguration." Astoria giggled.
"Yes- I know- I get it! That's why I'm studying." Maia rolled her eyes.
Astoria quickly looked over to the entrance of the library before standing up out of her chair. "Well don't let me distract you- Bye!"
"Tori- What the f- oh." Maia looked towards the library and saw the one person who would distract her even more than Astoria begin walking towards her.
"Transfiguration? Thought you were good at everything, Black." Fred laughed.
"The library? I didn't think you knew this place existed, Weasley." Maia smirked.
"That was good, I'll give you that." Fred sat down across from her.
"No- No you cannot sit here! You're just going to distract me!" Maia groaned.
"Now, I know it's hard to believe, but I actually want to pass my exams too. So, I have to study." he said, bringing his text book on the table.
"Astronomy?" Maia tilted her head.
"Yeah- I kinda suck at it."
This was their first normal conversation. No flirting, no teasing, sort of, no talk of their small shared kiss a couple months ago, nothing.
"Hm." Maia nodded slowly, before returning to her own book and notes.
A few minutes went by, the two sat in silence, until Fred grunted from the other end of the table.
"Dammit!" he groaned.
Maia jumped from the sudden movement, but then looked at him with soft eyes. "What happened?"
"Stupid star chart bullshit!" he rubbed his forehead.
"See this is why you pay attention during actual classes-"
"Maia!" Fred huffed.
"Sorry- Sorry- What are you having trouble with?" Maia tilted her head. "I'm fairly good at Astronomy, I'll see what I can do."
"Just- filling them out! What goes where and why?" Fred sighed in frustration.
Maia had never seen Fred this distressed before, he barely showed negative emotion at all. She scooted her chair closer to him. "Show me where you're at." Fred pointed to his sheet of parchment. "Oh! I got you! So..."
Maia went on to explain to him how star charts work and what to fill out and where. It was actually beginning to make sense to him. She was magical to him, more than just being a witch.
After a few minutes of explanation, Maia finished talking. Astronomy was obviously a subject she enjoyed, as she seemed to be very happy talking about it.
"That's it!" she smiled at him.
"That- That helped a lot, M, thank you!" Fred smiled back.
These were genuine smiles, and not just smug ones.
"Okay- now you're turn. Can you help with transfiguration?"
Fred raised his eyebrows at her, "You are actually overestimating my abilities, Maia." he chuckled.
Maia rolled her eyes, "I should've known!" she laughed.
Fred laughed with her, admiring her smile. As she begins to scoot her chair back to where it was, she almost falls off the edge of it. Before she can, Fred grabbed her arm, and pulled her back up. Just a lot closer to him. Maia felt all the heat rushing to her face.
Fred began to speak, "You should be a lot more careful-"
He was cut off by Maia's lips crashing into his, it gentle but passionate at the sametime. They went on like that for a couple seconds, Fred still having hold of Maia's arm, he scooted his chair back a bit and pulled her onto his lap. She just went with it, straddling him, deepening the kiss. He placed one hand on her waist and the other in her hair, while she had hers around his neck.
"I'm sorry-" she breathed out between kisses.
"For what?" he managed to get out.
"Running away-"
"Ahem!" Madam Pince was standing right in front of them, Maia kind of forgot they were in the library for a second.
Maia shuffled herself off of Fred immediately, blushing profusely.
"Highly inappropriate behavior in my library, Mr. Weasley, Miss. Black." Madam Pince nodded.
"I'm- We're terribly sorry Madam Pince! It won't happen again! Please don't give us detention, we have an awful lot of studying to do still." Maia pleaded, Fred just kinda stood there, half-smiling.
"Definitely looked like you were studying." Madam Pince raised her eyebrow, before sighing. "I'll let you off with a warning- But do not expect this ever again! The next time this happens, there will be detention."
"Thank you, Madam!" Maia smiled.
"Thanks, Madam Pince!" Fred answered as well, before murmuring, "Note to self, always let Maia do the talking."
Maia snickered at his comment, "I should get going, Astoria's probably waiting."
"What happened to not-"
"This is not me running away." she smiled at him, before gathering her books and walking out of the library.
Fred sat there and smiled to himself, "I'm doomed." he quietly laughed, before continuing his work.
