The firemen got the fire out quickly. But they weren't quick enough. The left side of the school was destroyed. Completely. There was just rubble. I then remembered... Someone could've gotten hurt! I looked around frantically. There were no ambulances. I let out a sigh of relief.

Then, I felt arms embrace around the back of me. I screamed in horror. Not knowing who it would be. I felt a soothing hand brush through my hair. I turned around to see my mother. Okay good, it was just her. See, this is what I hate about not hearing. I never know who someone is if they're behind me and I can't see them. I can't hear them call my name.

Immediately my mom started to check if I was hurt.

Mom! Stop. I'm fine!

I quickly signed to her. But I don't think she cared, she still made sure I wasn't burnt or anything bad like that. Then my mother started thanking all of the helpers who got all of the kids safely out of the school. Except Principal Nichols, who was talking to the head fireman. As my mom got done thanking everyone frantically, she started chatting nonchalontly with Kelcie. After a few hours of talking to other kids with different disabilities, I walked over to mom.

Mom, can we go home now?

I asked her. She nodded in return and said goodbye to Kelsie. We walked down to where she parked her car. I looked at the old dark green Toyota Camry. I got into the passenger seat of the car. I felt the thud next to me and saw my mom get in through the corner of my eye. She started the car, it took a while for it to start up. But soon enough, we were on our way home.
