I sat there and waited. I didn't see the doctor moving his lips. Then he put the phone down. He told the interpreter something, who turned and told me.
Your mom didn't answer. Do you know your father's number?
I ignored them for a while and signed to them
I don't know my father.
The interpreter took that in. And she told the doctor. He shook his head and dialed someone's number. As he did, the woman looked at me and asked.
What's your name?
I smiled slightly and spelled out my name.
Nice to meet you Annie. I'm sorry about your circumstance.
I smiled again and gave her a smile that said I was fine. Then her attention was focused on the doctor. I could only make out a few of his words. "Mom. On. Way. Here." So I think he said my Mom was on her way to get me.
Get some sleep. Please.
The woman told me. I was grateful to follow that command and I soon fell into a deep sleep.
