We dropped Shawna off and went home.

We returned to the groceries I'd kept on the counter and I knew we had to do some talking. I sat there while she went into the room.

When she came out to the kitchen to get water, she glanced at the groceries on the counter.

"Em?"

She turned. Her hair was very messy when she was cold and it made her look very pale. I could only notice how tired but sad she was and I wanted to know why.

"Before you say anything, I'm sorry about last night. I shouldn't have said any of the bad things I said to you. I just don't believe that there are people who are good enough to marry their girlfriends."

"You mean you still don't think we'll end up together?"

"Not in that sense. I rather feel like you're bound to me and you can't get what normal people have."

"What do you mean by normal people? We're the only normal people in the world, Em. The people who date the godly way, without defiling themselves, are the only normal people in the world. We are. So if you mean that I should spend my life doing what abnormal people do, I'd rather die. Because this is the life I love to live. And this is who I want to live it with. With you. Not with some other person who thinks I'll stay with them because they satisfy me. Because I know that if a person sins with you, they can sin against you. The fact that we give up our pleasures and desires to be with each other is what this is about. That's why I'll trust you more than any other person in the world. I need you to forget that I used to be a sinner. I need you to forget that I had a past. It's you now. It's been you. From the very beginning."

She was smiling. I removed the ring from my pocket and placed it on the counter.

She rolled her eyes. "Again?"

"It's just a reminder that we're gonna get married. No cap."

She laughed.

"Even if I propose to you and you refuse, I'll send the Holy Spirit."

She laughed even harder.

I pulled her into a hug.

"I love you. So much. Coming to my life has been the best thing that's ever happened to me. It's not a mistake that I met you. My prayer to God all the time is that if He ever thinks that we're not meant for each other, He can have a look at my heart."

"You can save the rest for your wedding," she laughed.

"Mine? Maybe ours?"

She nodded.

"You're not warm. Let's go to bed."

"What do we do with the groceries?"

I shrugged. "We'll take care of them tomorrow."

I gave her a warm pair of pajamas and I wore a rather lighter pair. After we prayed, we cuddled in bed.

"I feel so bad for Shawna."

"Me too. But she's the same person. As always. Not a very good friend too."

"Why would you conclude?"

"If she can't even respect you then she's looking for something else. I wonder what."

"Well, she was your school mate and she's older than me, just like you. She's been like that since she was in school. She has no reason to respect me."

"She's claiming to be my friend now after telling lies about us being in a relationship for two years. I know she's in a horrible situation now but she still doesn't look changed."
