I walked up to my locker to get my book and a few stuff. I'm a Computer Science student, basically. I got accepted into the UCLA, Bekerly, and I was so excited.
"Hey bad dancer," a familiar voice called from behind.
"That's a nice good morning there." I rolled my eyes as we parted ways. Sure he does the same program like me but two years ahead of me. He was in junior year, and I was in freshman year.
I love going to class early enough. It gives me room to study my Bible and go through the last lessons before classes begin, so that I don't get lost as lessons unfold.
As I got settled, I read Ecclesiastes 3. A time for everything.
There's a time for everything.
I prayed. "Lord, let your will in my life be done, Amen".
That's my favorite prayer. It makes loads of sense.
I got through my notes and just as I was finishing, I got a text from my elder sister. Becca.
"Hey love. I feel like I've not seen you in a long while now. I really miss you. I know you should be in school but just wanted to wish you a nice day. I'm happy today's Friday so you could come over tomorrow. Loads of surprises await you. You know, a life in CHRIST is one full of surprises. When you see this text, you might reply later, because I guess you should be in your class.
Loads of love."Becca is my activation energy. Added to the sunrise, she just brightened my day all the more. I just felt like squealing.
Just then, the class was getting full. Then the lesson began. Ethan sat beside me. It was a joined lesson for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors, so the hall was really rowdy but spacious enough.
Yeah. I meant big.
"Why are you sitting here?" I whispered. He just shrugged.
We had class up till lunch time. 11 . The class was real tedious but knowing that it was Miss Wendel, she was just so interesting. She always likened lessons to her life experiences. And she made sure we had real tedious assignments and exercises, but I always get over them. That's how I'm noted.
No one dares sleeps in her class, or comes in late, or gets distracted. Her lessons are like a movie where if you miss a second you get lost and you might find yourself backing off.
About some 10mins into lunch, Ethan sent me a text.
"Can we sit together during lunch? At the populars' table?"
I wasn't sure but, "Yeah. Sure."
I walked through the rowdy hallway to my locker to keep my stuff, taking all my time. However, today was going to be special. Lunch was going to be shorter.
I walked to the canteen to get my lunch, Ethan at the counter. He seemed liked he was waiting for something.
"You walk so fast. I couldn't even catch you in the hallway with the thick crowd."
I just shrugged and smiled. I got my tray and he led me to the popular's table, where everyone was noisy as usual. I quietly got settled and I concentrated on my lunch after praying while everyone was busy making a hell of noise. It alarmed me because I'm not used to so much kind of noise, but there's nothing I could do about it either. So I just ate my lunch. After I had my lunch, I took my phone from the pocket of the green hoodie I was putting on and I replied my sister's text.
"Sister! Can't wait to meet you! I miss you like crazy!!"
The fact that Emily was eating quietly and maturely made her more beautiful. Added to her natural beauty, she got manners. Like prayers before meals. To me it's weird to pray, but for manners' sake, it's all good. It's unlike me to be quiet, looking at a girl when others are making cool jokes. Nothing lifts my spirits like jokes. Apart from football, actually. I'm the head of the football team in college.
Unlike Shawna, Emily is very much intelligent. She is the most beautiful girl on campus presently, and no one goes about messing up with her name because she's way too kind to be treated like that. I couldn't believe she was a Christian until the time when we met about some 2 or 3 weeks ago. I guess I should get her all for myself; no one else.
Shawna just goes about bragging about her father everywhere, since her father is the chief attendant to Trump. No one goes home without hearing Shawna scream at commoners because they either smashed her sophisticated pink heels, or mistakenly poured ink on her princessish pink bags.
And worst of all, she hangs around me. She always just thinks that because I'm the school's football captain and she's a cheerleader, things might work out between us like in other high school movies.
I've flirted with girls from my other schools, but never serious relationship. So definitely, I've never dated. Even if Shawna were the only girl left on campus, I'd better die bachelor. Not to talk of flirting with her. Definitely not my type.
I like the tough type, the type that's uneasy to get. And that's just Emily.
I can't just also push Shawna away. That's not part of my gentleman code, considering the fact that I'm MVP.
Presently her arm was in mine, and she was doing some small chats with her friends. But I didn't even realize that she was beside me because I was busy watching Emily.
"Ethan?"
"Yeah."
"Will you be busy after school today?"
"I think so. Why ask?"
"I wanted us to go to the cinema. Just us."
"Uh, I'm sorry I won't be able to make it. Today's Friday and I have to spare my time for training." At this moment, the table was quiet.
"OK then. What 'bout tomorrow?"
"I'll be going shopping." I said as I continued looking at Emily who now put her phone in her pocket and was checking her watch.
"Family shopping, - "
"- I could still join, please?"
"It's a family thing." When I said that, Emily rose from her seat and nodded to me saying that she was off to class as I nodded in response.
Before Shawna could say a thing, the bell rang, and we all dispersed.
Emily's POV
I was listening to Mr. Owens when a note reached me from behind. I was sitting in front this time because Mr. Owens doesn't talk too loud.
You should be Harte. I'm Shawna Bucks, cheerleader of the school team. Ethan is the captain of the football team, so you see the relationship? Now I just need you to leave him alone; as you can see, he's my boyfriend, and we've been dating for 2yrs now. And just please try not to be cheap.
This girl just deprived me of my lesson for 5mins, which is the worst thing that should ever happen to me. Plus, the note sounded so childish and she was overreacting.
Just to make sure I made my self-control take over, I twisted the note and quietly put it under my foot and continued listening to my lesson. My pastor always tells me that the devil's place is under my feet, so I think I needed to just put it there; under my foot. After all, I'm just putting GOD's Word into practice and putting the devil to shame.
