The second Allison walked through the door, Chris and Victoria were on her, hugging the girl, having been scared for her, while Kate stood back and let them have this moment.
Alex walked in and shut the door behind him as Chris looked up at his son and looked conflicted between relief and anger.
Once they were done hugging Allison, she quickly moved past them and headed upstairs, the tears starting again as Chris and Victoria turned to Alex.
"Den. Now," Chris ordered as he marched into the other room with Victoria right behind him and Kate following with that smug smirk she always had.
When Alex entered the room, he saw his father standing by the bourbon, his mother standing beside the couch, and Kate leaning against the fireplace.
"What happened?" Chris demanded before turning around to look at Alex.
"It was the Alpha. He set a trap and lured Allison to the school with a text from Scott's number. I drove her to the school, and we met with Lydia and Jackson; when we found Scott, we realized he hadn't sent it; his phone had been broken a few days ago. The Alpha then began to chase us through the school as it hunted us. We got to a chemistry lab, and when we saw no further way out, Scott made a play for the key, which would get us out. Cops showed up before Scott could get the key, and the Alpha fled," Alex summarized the night events as Chris rubbed his chin in thought.
"But there was something off about it," Alex said, getting Chris to look toward him.
"Off? What do you mean?" Chris asked, interested.
"This alpha. It's more animal than man. It was corralling us for its beta," Alex added as Kate pushed off the fireplace.
"The Beta. Did you see it?" she asked demandingly as Alex looked toward her in anger.
"No. I was too busy protecting my sister," Alex snapped at her as she gave a scoff before turning back to leaning against the fireplace.
"Neither of you should have been there in the first place," Chris retorted as Alex looked at him exasperatedly.
"Are you kidding me? What if I hadn't been there, huh? Do you think Allison or any of the others would've been able to hold off an Alpha?!" Alex exclaimed. Chris clenched his jaw as he stood straight, narrowing his eyes at Alex.
"No," Chris answered evenly.
"Exactly. So instead of grilling me, you should be thanking me," Alex shouted as Chris looked at him before nodding.
"I am," he said with a smile as Victoria smiled while Alex looked surprised by the sudden switch in tone.
"Good work, Alex. You protected your sister and saved four other kids. Well done," Chris said with a proud smile.
Alex was momentarily speechless before smiling as he stuck his hands in his pockets.
"Seeing as you saved lives tonight, I've decided to lift your grounding. You're back on hunting detail," Chris said as Alex smirked along with Kate, who was smirking because Chris finally listened to her.
"Your first assignment... find the Beta," Chris said seriously as Alex's smirk vanished almost immediately as a feeling of dread washed over him, which he tried to mask with his stone-cold, serious expression.

The school was closed on Thursday and Friday and over the weekend as the damage was being repaired and the school cleaned. Alex spent his time at home, either working out or reading. Mostly, he spent his time hitting the punching bag. It helped him think.
