Chapter 13: Feeling stupid

Chapter 13

Katniss P.O.V.

The kiss changed almost my whole believe-system. What happened? I never thought that would happen.

My head is a mess right now. What can I do? What can I do? Ugh this is really confusing to me. Why would Peeta even want to kiss me? That's what I don't understand.

The rest of the group seemed pretty happy about it.

"Katniss can you come down here please?" I hear Kyle shout from downstairs.

I slip out of my bed and put down the book I was reading. The shining. A really good book if I may say so myself. I like Stephen King, although I can't bring myself to read Cujo, I love dogs too much.

I walk out of my room and down the stairs. I find the rest of the family in the living room. They're talking.

"I'm here", I say.

"Sit down sweetie", mom says.

"Why?" I ask and raise an eyebrow.

"Because we want to tell you girls something", Kyle says.

I shrug and walk to sit beside Prim in the big armchair.

"I'm sitting", I say which makes Kyle smile at me.

"Will you tell already? I'm really curious!" Prim says, bouncing up and down in the armchair.

"Okay what we wanted to tell you was that... Um..." My mother doesn't really know how to say what she wants to say, that's really obvious.

"Your mother is pregnant", Kyle says, ripping off the bandage! In this case the news.

What? Pregnant?

"But... Mom is old", Prim says confused for a second which makes Kyle and I burst out laughing.

"Oh thank you a lot for that comment Primrose", mom says in a disliking voice but a smile on her lips. "I'm not that old, and yes I'm pregnant".

"Well I'm happy if you guys are I guess", I say after I finally stopped laughing.

I start to hiccup instead. And so does Kyle. It sounds really funny when he hiccup, like a screaming pig and a howling chicken at the same time.

"We're very happy", Kyle says.

Prim moves over to sit in Kyle's lap.

"I think it's a boy", Prim says.

"I think it's a girl", Kyle says.

"Me too", I say.

"I think it's a boy also", mom says.

"Wanna make it a bet?" I ask. "Kyle and I against mom and Prim".

"You're on!" Prim says, looking very competitive.

I giggle and shake my head. I should be angry about my mom being pregnant. And I can see at mom and Kyle that they're relived but also very surprised that I'm taking the news so good. Normally I would have started to scream and storm off. I don't know why I don't right now.

I don't know anything about myself anymore. And it doesn't feel good. Maybe after everything that's happened I don't know who I am anymore.

I know that my name is Katniss. I know I'm seventeen. I know I'm a girl. And I know I'm depressed. But what else am I? I don't know.

My phone suddenly starts buzzing in my hoodie pocket. I take it up and stare in shock at the display. It says 'Peeta 😕😔😮'.

"You gonna answer?" Prim asks.
