Epilogue

The light blinds me. Suddenly there's a shadow in the light. I try to see what it is. The shadow is shaped like a man.

The shadow comes closer and closer. It is a man. Where am I though?

The man is now right beside me, and when my eyes has gotten used to the light, I can see that the man is my father.

He doesn't look happy to see me. He has a frown on his face and slightly disappointed eyes.

"I asked you not to do that to yourself again Katniss", he says.

"I couldn't take it anymore, I... You don't know what I went through", I say. "You left me".

"But I didn't choose to leave you my dear child", dad says. "You chose to leave your mother, your sister and your friends".

"They're better off without me", I say.

"And Peeta?"

"Him too", I say in a low voice.

"Just because you're convinced of it, doesn't make it true Katniss", my dad says. He reaches me his hand. "Come here. I'll show you".

I hesitate but after a few seconds I take my fathers hand. It feels so right to hold his hand. Just like when I was a little girl it feels so big and rough but warm and soft in mine.

I've missed holding my fathers hand.

He leads me away from the light and into something else. Some blue/purple light. At first I'm blinded, but after a second the light disappears.

I look around and find myself in a church. People are sobbing.

I look at my dad.

"Go on", he says. "I'll wait here".

I hesitate before walking down the isle. There are a lot of familiar faces sitting in the rows. I continue to walk down the isle.

I look at the pastor in front. Wait I know him. It's pastor Ned Bennley. He's looking extremely sad. He's talking.

"...Katniss Everdeen was as we all know a very warmhearted and funny young girl. No matter her day, she managed to smile at the people she passed", he says.

Wait. This is my funeral. I frown as I continue to walk.

I'm in the front now. I look at the first row. My family. They're all looking like they can never be happy again. Kyle... He looks like he's lost a part of himself. He looks confused, devastated, heartbroken and angry all at the same time. My mom... She looks just like Kyle. Her baby bump is big now. She's in her last trimester and is going to give birth any day now. Prim... She looks scared and confused. Tears flowing down her eyes. She's sitting between Kyle and mom, squeezing their hands as hard as she can.

I breath in heavily and shaky, looking away. I look at the first row on the other side. My friends.

Madge looks... Dead. They all look dead. They look sick. Like really really sick. I can see that all of them have lost crazy much weight. What the hell happened to them?

I feel a pair of hands on my shoulders. I look up at my father. He looks deeply sad.

"What happened to them?" I whisper.

"They found you, the memories of your body haunts them at night. Annie and Madge who both saw you as more than just a friend, couldn't handle the sight. Finnick who saw you as his real sister lost a part of himself and Peeta... He lost his second half. None of them are eating, none of them are sleeping. It's not gonna be long for them if they don't start to eat and sleep", my dad says.
