Regrets

Part 2

Heather felt that someone squeezed her heart, and nothing could hurt her anymore. She wished that she was dead. She knew she was a coward back then and even now, who could not end her life. Nicki was supposed to do the evening shift, but she couldn't dare to leave Heather alone. She was trying to call all her colleagues to see if anyone could cover her shift. Money was tight at her end, and she could not afford to take a day off.

Heather heard Nicki pleading with one of her coworkers. At that moment, she came out and snatched Nicki's phone, and ended the call.

"Nicki, please go to your job and come back later. I am fine. I will be fine. "

"I will not leave you, Heather. Not at this moment. You were there for me at my most difficult time, and I will be there for you. "

"I know, Nicki, you are there for me. You are my soul sister. You should go to work. I need some space to digest all this."

"Are you sure?" Nicki was doubtful.

"Yes, do not worry ", She assured her. Nicki knew Heather needed some space. She called her husband Neil and explained everything to him briefly.

Neil was in a state of shock to hear about Aron.

" Nicky, are you sure you are talking about Dr Aron?"

" Yes, "

" There might be some misunderstanding. We have known him for years, he is such a gentleman."

" Well, apparently that bastard hid his true nature very well.

" How is Heather?"

" Still in shock."

"Don't worry about your shift. Be there for her,

"She wants me to go. I think she needs time and space, poor soul. I think we should come in the evening. "

Heather walked around the house. This was her dream home. She personally designed and decorated every corner.

She still remembers when they moved in here. She fell in love with the house.

" Aron, getting such a big house outside London at this price is a steal. "

" Heather, are you sure? It is way above our budget. It will take years for us to complete the mortgage".

" Don't worry, I will sell my jewelry. It will be a contribution towards the initial deposit and Rose will start school. I think I should start working now."

"No, you need to concentrate on family. I am there to provide for you. Why do you want to work when I am already there at your service? Live life like a queen. Don't toil yourself like other women."

"But our finances?"

" Take your mind off that, we will manage. Look, I am worried about these 3 acres of ground. I do not think it is easy to maintain and see this place is very secluded."

" Aron, darling. You are busy at the hospital. It is just me and the kids who are left at home and soon Rose will start school. I will dedicate my time to the house. I will take this as a DIY project then."

Their children were very young when they moved into the house. It was one of the most expensive estates around. Aron was a new surgeon at that time.

"Look Aron, how does the garden look?" Heather asked when the workers finished the job on their new garden. She designed all the plants and fruit trees. She even had a rose garden.

" I can't believe it. You are a genius, Heather. "

" I can imagine Rose and Zack hosting their weddings here."

She had planned all her life in this house, but look at her fate, it had some other plans. They say you should never get attached to worldly things and Heather went against this.

" How could you do this to me, Aron," she cried hard.

She looked at herself in the big mirror in the lounge. She looked like an old lady. She was much younger than Nicki, but now she aged more than her.

All her life, Heather wanted to have a family. She tolerated Aron and his unreasonable demands so that her children could have a complete family and happy childhood. Unfortunately, which she never had.

She never knew her mum. Her mother passed away when she was just a week old. Her father soon remarried her aunt and had other children. Two daughters and a son.

Her father loved her a lot, but her stepmother, Lisa, hated her. She reminded her that her husband had another woman before her. She used to spoil Heather in front of him but despised her behind. She used to feed her children first and leave leftovers for Heather as kids, but when Heather grew up things changed a lot. She was more vocal and independent.

Her half-sisters Claire and Marissa were very young, and she never bonded with them. Claire was six years younger and Marissa was 10 years younger.

Her half-brother, Leo, was the only person who was compassionate towards her. He was 8 years younger than her but still loved her. When growing up, he slowly distanced himself under pressure from his mother and sisters. Claire was very jealous of Heather. Heather was very intelligent and beautiful compared to her. She was the center of attraction wherever she went. Claire hated that. She resembled her father. Whereas Marissa was very beautiful. She resembled Heather more. Lisa was very proud when Marissa was born. She would praise her whenever given a chance, but she was very young compared to Heather. Heather never hated any of them. She helped them with their careers. She was the one who introduced Claire to James, her friend's brother, who later became her husband.

After marrying Aron, Heather guided and helped Leo and Marissa to get into medical schools. They used to come and stay at her place on summer vacations. Heather's house was like a luxurious holiday resort for them and even Aron never used to mind Heather's family staying. He used to treat them like his own siblings.

Things changed after her father's sudden demise. Her Father died without a will. Lisa, Heather's stepmother, cleverly took everything under her control and cut Heather out of her inheritance. The thing was, Mathew Heather's father loved Lisa a lot, and he transferred all his property to her name. As she never showed any resentment towards Heather, he thought she would treat all of them equally.

One day Marissa needed help with her work placement and as she was doing medicine she asked for Aaron's help, but he was unable to help her. They had an argument and things changed drastically or maybe this was a chance Lisa was looking to cut Heather off completely.

They blocked Heather and told her that she was a stepchild and that they did not wish to have any further contact. Heather talked about her inheritance and she was berated by Lisa. Heather was heartbroken but distanced herself from them.

Later she came to know that Marissa was married to a doctor in the States and her stepmother had moved to America. She did not even get an invitation.

Her children, Zack and Rose, used to ask about their Grandmother and aunt's sudden disappearance from their lives but as they grew up they understood.

At this stage, Heather had no one whom she could turn into.

Aron was busy with his girlfriend. He was busy shopping and splurging his wealth on this woman. He meticulously planned everything. He met her again by chance and this time he was going to listen to his heart and never let her go. They met at a conference and confessed to each other. The only thing she wanted to be with him was that he get rid of Heather.
