"I am so sorry, Ambika," Rudraksha choked out, his voice thick with emotion. With trembling hands, he withdrew, his eyes downcast as if he could not bear to meet her gaze. "I... You don't deserve this," he continued, his words laced with anguish. "Y...
As the lively tune of "Sajna Hai Mujhe" buzzed from her phone, Ambika dance along with it, her eyes sparkling with joy. Her curvy waist swayed gracefully as she moved, the red chiffon saree flowing around her like a dream. Her long, dark chocolate-hued hair tumbled down her back, and her deep, kajal-lined eyes shone with mischief. Her pouty lips were painted a vibrant red, and golden jewelry accentuated her every move.
Lost in the music, she danced with abandon, unaware of another presence in the room. When the song ended, she smiled widely and turned towards her phone, only to be startled by a voice calling her name.
"Ambika! How many times have I called you? Lunch is ready!" Minakshi, her sister-in-law, stood with her hands on her hips, a playful roll to her eyes.
"Oh, Goddess, you scared me!" Ambika exclaimed, her hand flying to her heart.
Minakshi shook her head fondly and tugged on Ambika's ear playfully. "Sharakhon Shuddhu reels ar reels, keu dakle shunte hoi!" she teased in their native tongue.
(All you do is make reels, huh? How many times have I told you to pay attention?)
"Ow, that hurts!" Ambika yelped, wriggling out of Minakshi's grasp.
"Now, who's this 'sajna' you're always dancing for?" Minakshi asked, mimicking the lyrics of the song. "Come on, spill it, sister."
(Sajna: lover)
Ambika smirked, a secret lurking in her eyes. "There's someone..." she began, a hint of mischief in her voice. She reached for her phone and switched off the reels app, a coy smile playing on her lips.
Minakshi's eyes widened, and she pulled Ambika close, her curiosity piqued. "Oh my, a mystery man! Who is he?!"
Ambika's smile grew wider, and she whispered, "His name is Rudra."
"Rudra, huh? Never heard of that name. Which kul does he belong to?" Minakshi inquired, using the term for a clan or community.
Ambika's smile faltered, and she looked away, biting her lip nervously. "Well... he's not from any particular kul," she mumbled.
Minakshi's eyebrows shot up. "What do you mean? Who's his father then?"
"Oh, you know... no one famous or anything," Ambika replied, her voice trailing off.
"Wait, what? This is getting interesting. So, what does he do?"
Ambika took a deep breath, her eyes darting around the room. "He... he's a laborer. He works at construction sites," she admitted.
Minakshi's eyes went wide as saucers, and she stopped in her tracks. "The princess of Durga Kul is in love with a laborer? Are you pulling my leg?"
Ambika remained silent, her gaze dropping to the floor.
"Ambika, were you blindfolded when you fell in love? This is crazy!" Minakshi exclaimed, her voice laced with concern.
"Shh, keep it down! Someone will hear!" Ambika hissed, glancing around nervously.
"You want me to keep quiet about this whole scandal? You plan to marry him and live happily ever after?" Minakshi asked, her voice a mixture of disbelief and exasperation.
"Yes, I will," Ambika asserted, her chin lifting with determination.
"How can you possibly live their lifestyle? Have you ever stepped foot in a kitchen?" Minakshi asked, her eyes narrowing.
"Yes," Ambika replied meekly.
"And what, pray tell, do you do in the kitchen?" Minakshi pressed, her arms folded across her chest.
"I tell you what food I want to eat," Ambika said, a hint of defiance creeping into her voice.
"Exactly! You're a princess who's been waited on hand and foot her entire life. How do you expect to adjust to a laborer's lifestyle?" Minakshi argued, her tone serious now.
"I'll manage," Ambika said stubbornly, pulling Minakshi towards the dining room where the rest of the family was gathered.
"Well, well, look who finally decided to join us," Trishul, Minakshi's husband, remarked with a hint of amusement.
"Oh, were you missing your wife, dear brother?" Ambika teased.
"Control your tongue!" Trishul scolded.
Ambika stuck her tongue out at him, undeterred by his reprimand.
Ambika's POV
I
am Ambika, the youngest member of the esteemed Durga Kingdom, and admittedly, a bit spoiled. You see, I have been blessed by none other than Maa Kamakhya herself, and as a result, all of Bharat Varsh sees me as some precious gem. But let me tell you, I am no rare bird. Aside from the blessings, I possess no extraordinary qualities.
For instance, I am not what one would call academically inclined. Exams tend to leave me flustered, and my IQ level is, well, let's just say it's not my strongest suit. Social interactions aren't my forte either; I tend to stumble over my words and find myself socially awkward, even a bit antisocial at times. I've struggled with PTSD and severe anxiety, but I've learned to manage it by keeping myself distracted.
Now, suitors are aplenty, but I am under no illusion that it is my captivating personality that draws them in. It's the blessings, of course. Everyone wants a piece of the blessed girl, myself included. My family insists that they love me for who I am, but I can't help but wonder if that's truly the case. After all, what's to love about a girl who is, quite frankly, good for nothing?
However, amidst all this, I found someone special. It was one of those lonely, bored days when I stumbled upon a dating app and, lo and behold, I met Rudra. Oh, Rudra is everything I could ever dream of—strong, possessive, protective, caring, affectionate, and so very loving. But there's a catch, isn't there always?
You see, I am head over heels in love with this man, but he, well, he's not quite on the same page. We're in what one might call a 'situationship.' I am all in, while he remains hesitant to commit. He has made it clear that he is not ready for a serious relationship, yet he also doesn't want me talking to other strangers on the platform. And to top it all off, he expects me to go along with the arranged marriage my family has planned for me.
I don't know he is super confusing! But I also love him so much, that I can't even spend a day without talking with him. I disturb him so much when he works but I can't help but fall in love......
Just a poor girl in love...
