Ambika walked through the corridor humming her favorite song, her steps light and bouncy. The memory of yesterday’s romantic moment with Rudraksha played on repeat in her mind like a cheesy scene from the Bollywood movies, making her blush. Sure, the blood and the cuts were a bit too much, but seeing someone go to such lengths for her was thrilling. She felt a twinge of guilt for finding it exciting while he was in pain, but then again, he’d done it to himself.
Her reverie was interrupted by the sound of laughter echoing from Trishul and Minakshi's bedroom. Rudraksha's deep chuckle mingled with the higher, more melodic laughs of Trishul and Minakshi. Intrigued, she knocked lightly and then barged in, her curiosity winning over her manners.
The trio looked up, their faces bright with amusement.
"What are you guys talking about?" she asked, her smile already forming in anticipation of their response.
"You," Trishul said, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
She raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. "Me?"
"Yes, you," Trishul confirmed, still grinning.
"You will live for hundreds of years," Minakshi added, laughing.
(In Indian culture, saying "you will live for 100 years" when someone unexpectedly shows up is a polite and warm way to react to their unexpected presence, combining surprise with a blessing for their longevity.)
"And what exactly are you discussing about me?" Ambika demanded, trying to look stern but failing miserably, her hands planted firmly on her hips.
"Your studies," Trishul said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Now that your engagement is off and you’re back home, it’s time to consider completing your graduation."
Her eyes grew wide with fear, as if he’d just proposed she live underwater. "W-What? Studies? B-But I’m not planning to go to Russia, so how will I...?"
"Aha! Do you think only Russia has great colleges?" Trishul asked, raising an eyebrow in mock disbelief. "Yes, we planned for you to finish your graduation there because you were supposed to settle there after marriage. But now that’s off, you can complete it here."
She pouted dramatically, dragging her feet toward the bed. She plopped down beside Trishul, placing her phone on the bed and inching so close their knees touched. She cupped his cheeks and gave him her best puppy-dog eyes.
"Oh, Dadabhai... Is it so important to complete my degree?" she asked, her voice dripping with sweetness.
(Dadabhai: Brother)
Trishul mimicked her in an exaggeratedly high-pitched voice, "Yes, my beloved sister, my sweet little cutie pie," then switched back to his normal tone. "It's extremely important."
Minakshi and Rudraksha burst out laughing.
Ambika's annoyance flared at the sound of Rudraksha's laughter. She spun on her knees, marched over to him, and grabbed him by the collar. Curling her fingers into a fist, she held it threateningly in front of his face. "You dare laugh at my serious situation."
"Hey! Hey! What are you doing? Hey, move away from him, this is bad manners!" Trishul yelped, his nerves skyrocketing. What would Rudraksha think of his dumb sister? After all, Rudraksha was a guest.
"Apologize," she warned, her eyes narrowing dangerously.
"No," Rudraksha said, a victorious smirk plastered on his face.
