They were doing their job, flicking through the channels and looking at each corner of the universe at once to see if there was something out of place.
It was a monotonous job but it was one that paid well. And it was the most popular job on their planet. But nevertheless, it sometimes didn't compensate for how boring it was.
When they confirmed that there was nothing out of place, they started playing this game. They would pick something to focus on and try to predict what would happen next. It was one of the only ways to be entertained in this job where nothing ever happened.
They had just picked to watch two aliens battle each other when something seemed a little out of place. They zoomed in and noticed an alien on a planet where they were not supposed to be. And this alien didn't accidentally wander off either like some of the aliens did, this alien was angry at someone or something. It seemed like this alien was forced there against the alien's own will.
They thought for a moment, then consulted the manual. This was something that never happened when they were on duty so they for sure didn't know what to do. But they reasoned that there had to be something in the manual.
They flipped through the manual and found the section that best described the situation that they were witnessing and read it.
Then, they read it again.
And again.
And again.
This couldn't possibly be happening!? they thought. Didn't we banish this and prevent this a long long time ago? And besides, since it was a long long time ago, wouldn't they all forget it by now?
But the situation they were witnessing proved them wrong. This was happening and they were pretty sure they knew who was responsible for this.
