Thalia tapped her foot to the Boulevard of Broken Dreams beat as she watched Ron, Harry, and Malfoy locked in a stare-off.
'What are you doing here, Malfoy?' Harry said.
Malfoy shrugged. 'I'm just catching up with my family. You know, spending time with them. Weasely, you of all people should value that more. And Potter... sorry. Too early?'
Harry snarled and raised a fist at Draco, causing Ron and Hermione to step in to restrain him. Ron shot Jason a dirty look. 'Let's not do this, Harry. Remember what they told us.'
'Fucking watch it, Draco,' Nico said. 'We're not averse to letting them have a shot at you. We put in a good word for you; don't ruin it.'
The blond son of Hecate bowed his head. 'I'm sorry. It's just- I'm so used to-'
Oooh boy. Thalia wasn't sure they'd ever finish their mission the way this was going. Before coming, she and the others had decided that the only way to defeat Voldemort was by uniting the Houses and putting forth the might of Hogwarts as a final frontier.
If the rift between the houses was so large, especially between Gryffindor and Slytherin- arguably the two most important Houses in this fight- things would go sour very quickly.
She stepped forward, putting her between the three boys, and let a little bit of lightning crackle around her fingertips, revealing her tiara, and her armor (after all, she had to be a little dramatic; being a child of Zeus, that was, like, half the job).
'Listen, you numbnuts. You'd better put aside your difference and make nice or shit's gonna hit the fan. Now, I'll give you-'
The train came to a screeching halt, followed by the horrible sound of metal grinding against metal, the sound of crumpling and crushing steel, and the screams of the wizards and witches as the train flew off the rails.
Thalia was flung to one side of the train. She collided with the wall with a crack and felt the metal bend under her. Her head throbbed and from the hot, sticky feeling in her mouth, she knew she was bleeding, probably from biting her tongue hard.
Her nostrils were assaulted with the stench of burning tires and gasoline. She clutched one of the handlebars, the scenery passing by her as the train kicked up dirt and soil, splattering against the window.
As the train stopped, Thalia jumped to her feet and pulled Malfoy up. Her nostrils flared, seeing his pale pallor, wobbly knees, and trembling lip. He was weak and frightened. This kid wasn't a demigod. He couldn't be. Sure, he had been brought up in safety with money to throw around, but he couldn't be this soft, could he?
'What just happened?' Hermione said.
A horn blew in the distance, and as if a switch had been flipped, Thalia's senses heightened. They couldn't be here. Why were they here?
'Ponies?' Percy said.
She shook her head. 'No. It's the Hunt. And by the sound of it, they are in a bit of trouble.'
She turned to Will. 'Permission to go, Doc?'
Will nodded, his face set. 'Permission granted. I'm coming with you. Jason, Percy, and Neeks, you three stay back. I'm not risking any overexertion on your part. Hermione, Ron, Harry, Draco, you're free to come and help.'
'Right,' Nico said. 'We'll evac the train then we'll get them away.'
Thalia stepped to the window, her shoulders set, back straight. She allowed the electricity to build up around her around her arm. Then she cocked back her fist and let it loose. The window shattered into a million pieces, and arcs of blue, flickering lightning weaved across the copper and steel walls.
