Harry looked around the large, sprawling dormitory the Royals had to themselves. It was larger than the Slytherin and Gryffindor common rooms combined. It even had a built-in kitchen.
Damn.
He would have felt jealous about so much space, but then he remembered what they had told him the day prior. Until yesterday, Harry had thought he'd had a bad life. But three wars?
In the far right of the room, Leo flicked a switch on a tape recorder- Harry had seen a few of those in the muggle world. He had never been allowed to use the Dursley's, of course, but the concept was cool.
'This is meeting one, day one at Hogwarts. This goes on the record in the official CHB and CJ logs, behind the Argo 2 tapes. Let's start.'
Percy took a deep breath. 'Let's start with Hermione. Did you notice something in Umbridge's speech?'
'Yeah. The Ministry's interfering at Hogwarts.'
'And what do you think of it?'
Hermione shot up. 'It's ridiculous! What does Fudge think he is, sending that toad to the school? Even if he doesn't want to accept that Voldemort's back, as stupid as that is, it's no excuse to have a teacher who doesn't even teach the subject.'
'Thank you, Hermione,' Annabeth said. 'Harry, can you tell me why?'
'Er, I mean, the Prophet's been printing all kinds of stuff about me and Dumbledore. Fudge has been very insistent on saying that I'm a liar and a crackpot and Dumbledore is an old idiot who listens to my every word.'
He felt his nails digging into his palms as he said the words. How could he? How dare Fudge suggest he was making up Voldemort's return? For god's sake, the Dark Lord had killed his parents!
Harry continued, the pieces clicking into his mind as he put them into words: 'His actions are those of someone scared.'
'Very good, Harry,' Thalia said. 'You know, when Kronos rose again, the gods too were unwilling to believe that the Lord of Time had returned.'
Even now, Hary was astounded by how easily these people spoke of gods and titans. He had to constantly remind himself that no, they weren't normal people. If he concentrated, he could very easily make out the waves of power that rolled off them, and Harry was rather sure that that the demigods were subduing their auras.
'And when it became obvious that Krnos had returned, and that Thals or I could serve their fall, they voted on the issue of whether to kill us or not,' Percy said.
Harry's eyes widened. 'So Fudge thinks Dumbledore- we- want to overthrow him? Is he stupid?'
'Ah, Harry, but you yourself put it so well,' Piper said. 'Fudge is scared. Fear can do terrible things to a person. He's trembling under that bowler hat.'
'But that's stupid!' Hermione said. 'Dumbledore never even wanted the job of Minister.' She caught herself, and then said in a soft voice, 'But I guess that boils back to the paranoia, doesn't it?'
Frank, who had been quiet thus far, his poker face on, finally spoke. 'Ron, you know wizarding history rather well, and even though Hermione outperforms you in academics, you are a much better strategist.'
'I know of your chess exploits- all the tournaments you have won and the masters you have defeated. To be a good strategist, you must know the enemy somewhat, you must know past patterns, and you must know how the enemy works. So tell me, when has wizarding society changed- for better or for worse- in the past century.'
Ron's mouth opened and closed. 'I guess it has only been twice. Some wixen have tried to bring about changes, be it in werewolf legislature or house-elf rights, but nothing has happened.'
'And why is that?' Reyna said.
Ron said softly, 'Because the International Confederation of Wizards, the Supreme law-making body for the whole Wizarding World, is in the pocket of the ones who don't want the changes.'
'And when did these changes, bad though they may be, happen?' Leo said.
'During Grindelwald's Great Fear and the Reign of Terror that came forth in the wake of You-Know-Who's rise and fall.'
'Who were the wixen who tried to bring about changes?' Hazel said.
'The prominent being Dumbledore-'
Percy, who was pacing around the room, agitation in every step, stopped. 'Exactly. Dumbledore couldn't do anything. I am not a fan of the man, but he is the most powerful wizard right now, and one of the strongest, period.'
'He is also the Chief Warlock of the Wizenagamot and the Supreme Mugwump of the Confederation. He could not change anything politically, do you think we stand any chance?'
'What are you suggesting, Percy?' Harry said.
He was getting worried. The last person he'd seen talking like this... well, not exactly like this. Tom Riddle'd had a silkier tone and a different way with words and what he said was different, but the meaning behind it all was the same.
Hazel said, 'Now, Hermione overheard us talking to the gods in Grimmauld Place and she's probably told you this, but the gods sent us on this mission to check if Voldemort was a threat. If he was, your orders were to destroy your entire race effective immediately. Percy, Nico, and I managed to convince most of the council, and Jason and Thalia were able to put their foot down on Lord Zeus' demands.'
'But times have changed,' Reyna said. 'We've come to a decision just after Umbridge's first class. Voldemort will only be a threat for as long as the Ministry allows him to be. Right now, it looks like the Minsity will ignore the issue until Voldemort takes it over.'
Harry's stomach lurched and the taste of bile filled his mouth. 'You want us to rebel?'
Percy shook his head, a dark glint in his eyes. 'No, not rebel. We need you to crush the Ministry once and for all, and then create a new world order.'
'Are you crazy? How do you propose doing that?' Hermione said, her cheeks becoming redder with every word as her voice rose.
Jason gave her a wry smile. 'Why, through the three of you, obviously.'
Harry's jaw dropped. What did Jason mean by "the three of them"? What were they to do? Especially against the whole Ministry and then Voldemort?
Reading other expressions, Frank said, 'We'll be helping you every step of the way. We'll help you find out Voldemort's secrets, we'll train you to fight. Not just in magic, but in ancient arts too.'
Jason gave him, Hermione, and Ron a once-over. 'And if you're truly prepared to go above and beyond for what's right-'
'We will. I know Ron and Hermione will be by my side, always.'
Harry had made his decision. James Potter wasn't known for his hesitance, nor was Sirius Black. Neither was his mother. They all did the right thing, even though it cost them dearly.
Ron and Hermione nodded, and it warmed Harry's heart. He knew they would be behind him, but to see them agree made him so, so utterly happy.
Jason said, 'Good. Because then we'll train you in the Dark Arts as well. You'll need to - it's the only way to beat Voldemort.'
