— KABIR—

My head wanders around the events that took place today. The cab keeps moving along the busy streets of California.

I wanted her to speak to Myra.

I wanted to rectify my mistake. Apologize for the past three months. Didn't get a chance to. By the time I gathered enough courage to talk to Siya and opened the door to her cabin, she'd already left. Rodrick left with her, and judging by the smell in the room, she was really drunk. I called him and he said that she'd passed out, she was sleeping. She was stressed. It's not good for her. Stress isn't good for her.

I reach the mansion, pay the guy and open the door with my spare key. I'm surprised to see Ava amd Fatty in the kitchen, I glance at my watch. It's ten. Of course, they're home.

"Hey, dinner is ready. Go freshen up." Ava smiles at me, I nod. Fatty signals me to wait in the hallway, so I do. "What happened between you two? She came home drunk." He whispers, worried. "It's a little complicated. Why the hell is Ava so relaxed?" I raise a brow, Fatty snorts. "Because she thinks that Siya is tired and needs rest. You have no idea how much room freshener I had to use to get rid of that smell. There's still a scented candle burning by her bed." I chuckle, he joins me. He places a hand on my shoulder, give it a squeeze, I smile staring at the floor. Let out a breath when he walks back to his dear wife. He saved my ass today.

We all sit for dinner after I manage to peep into Siya's room, to find her sleeping. The food is delicious. We all gossip for a bit, laugh at the way Ava gives all the tomatoes to Fatty and Fatty gives her all the potatoes. They are so made for each other. I start helping Ava clear the table while Fatty takes out the trash. It's nice, homely.

"No! Kabir!" A scream from Siya's room creates havoc in the room. Ava drops the plates into the sink, Fatty is staring upwards towards her room and I'm already bolting up the stairs, I hear her scream again. My feet getting colder by the second.

I open her door but Ava is already running towards her past me. My eyes stretch wide with absolute horror. Siya is tangled in her sheets, I can't see her at all as she keeps screaming and kicking at nothing in particular. "No! No! Don't do this! Please."

Ava hurriedly tugs at the sheets to free Siya, her hands trembling. I step forward, she raises her hand at me. "You, you are still supposed to be away from her. She wouldn't be having these had it not been for you and your damned life!" She spits the words like venom. I'm taken aback. Mortified.

I stare at Ava trying to wake Siya up, who has gone rigid. Her body still, eyes wide, tears flowing down, jaw trembling, her whitened knuckles grabbing the bedsheet beneath her.

"KabirKabirKabir..." She keeps whispering my name, calling out to me. My eyes began to burn. "Please, Ava. If not for me then for her. She needs me." Ava nods at me reluctantly, suddenly, Siya starts thrashing against the bed again, her screams louder this time, Ava quickly gets away from her, I understand.

It is scary.

Just imagine how scary it must be for her.

"Siyu." I sit beside the bed, pull her closer to me. "No! No! It hurts. Pleasepleaseplease." She tries to push me away, wriggling like a fish in my arms. I hold her tighter. Her screams increase, so does the number of times she calls me. "Siya, shh... shh— I'm here, it's okay. It's all okay. Nobody is hurting you. Kabir is here, see." I wrap my arms around her tiny frame, hold the side of her face, whisper sweet nothings in her ear. She stops screaming, she stops moving, relaxes. I keep looking at her. "Kabir. You're here?" She whispers, her eyes trying to recognise me. I smile at her, kiss her nose multiple times. Her expression doesn't change but the way she holds me tighter proves that she's feeling safe. That's what matters.
