Zaid shifted his weight between his legs in an agitated manner as he scanned his surroundings. The event planner whom Kashmala seemed to be supervising most passionately in order to make sure that all the arrangements were up to standard, had just added a couple of finishing touches to the extravagant poolside decor, getting it ready in the nick of time for the first group of guests to make an entrance at the gathering.
Ever since she'd started this custom of throwing an annual pool party in the months of autumn, it had quickly risen to be a noteworthy social event for all of Karachi's affluent youth-one that was known to grab eyeballs. Zaid wasn't particularly interested in attending it, for most of the folks at the party would be closer to Kashmala's age and strangely enough, Zaid found that even though they were just four years apart, often times Kashmala's friends would appear so frivolous to him that he'd wonder if they'd grown up in a different era.
Besides, the first time she'd thrown the party, Zaid remembered that the Shah twins had gotten so sloshed, that he'd had to escort them out of the premises himself as per his father's instructions. This was of course, done in order to conceal them from the prying eyes of the media to avoid any scandals. And Zaid knew in his gut, that there was a high possibility of history repeating itself, and he was absolutely not in the headspace to deal with such a nuisance.
As Zaid rubbed his temples in order to calm his nerves, his mind traveled back to the conversation he'd had with Mubashira two nights before at the very spot he was currently parked at. He'd barely slept the night after the heated exchange he'd had with her, where he'd outright confronted her about the reason she'd married his father.
