Chapter 45
Groaning, I pull the duvet closer to my body, every muscle in me protesting. My head aches as I try to sleep a little longer, knowing that once I leave my bed a shit storm awaits me.
"Good morning Alli." The bed dips beside me as Sky gently pulls back the duvet, giving me an amused smile as I blink at him, frowning that he decided to disturb me.
"How do you feel?" He asks, brushing my hair from my face before bending down and placing a kiss on my forehead.
"Like I've been through hell and back." I yawn, giving him a small smile. He chuckles, running his hands through my hair. My eyes close involuntarily, the gentle movements making me want to fall asleep again.
"After yesterday, I would say we've been through hell and back." He muses, his deep voice making me open my eyes once more. He pulls the duvet off of me, silently signalling that it is time to get up. I groan again, not wanting to leave my bed.
"Lillian and Liz want to talk to you. Apparently the news has been going all day about the attack yesterday, some even claiming that you died in the attack." He explains as I slowly sit up. The doors suddenly burst open and Alice strides in, Clarice and Millia behind her as Clarice pushes a cart full of food towards the bed.
"Glad to see you are awake." Clarice calls out, rushing to my side and hugging me tightly. I hug her back, happy to see my friend.
"You slept the whole morning away and it's currently one in the afternoon." Alice smiles as she hands me a glass of water, the cool refreshing liquid being just what I need as I down the glass in seconds.
"You mean I slept the whole day away?" I ask, handing the glass to Alice. Sky nods, pulling me onto his lap and pressing his lips to my shoulder. I shiver, my mind wandering back to last night, to the kiss he gave me.
"Yes, you slept the day away." Clarice confirms, pushing the cart closer to me and handing me a plate with a sandwich on it. I thank her, my stomach growling as I take a bite of the turkey club. Sky holds me tight, his chin resting on my shoulder. I can hear each breath he takes and it is very distracting.
"So I am guessing my grandmama and Liz sent you in to grab me." I state after a few bites of the turkey club.
"Yes. They have a plan for a news broad cast." Alice turns the vanity seat around, sitting down and letting out a sigh. She thanks Millia as the Maid hands her a glass of juice while Clarice disappears into my closet. I sigh, deciding to finish my sandwich before I need to deal with anything else today. Alice then goes into an explanation that when grandmama woke up, Uncle Christopher had come into the Palace to see if she knew what was happening with me and if she had heard from Sky or me. She reassured him that I was in bed safe at the time and he left to prepare the broadcasting room on the second floor just down the hall from my office.
"So if my Uncle is preparing the broadcasting room, why do Liz and grandmama need me?" I ask, getting a sigh from Alice.
"They need to brief you on the situation out in the Kingdom and you need to go over the notes of what to say to reassure the people of Nimairene." Alice gives me a small smile as Clarice walks into the room with an outfit in hand. It seems this is something that as the next rule I have to do. The attack yesterday afternoon didn't just affect me, but also the people that were meant to enjoy the parade and fair. Instead there was chaos and gun shots. Who knew just how many casualties there are from the frantic crowd.
"So go for a shower after you finish eating. Millia, Clarice and I will wait for you here." She continues, taking a pastry. Sky doesn't eat, even when I offer him a bit of my sandwich. He just holds me while Alice takes my tablet from the bedside table and Millia and Clarice mill about my room tidying it up for me. When I finished my sandwich, I hesitate to get off from Sky's lap. Getting up means I have to dress and face my nation. To warn them that it isn't safe.
"Come one Alli. Time for a shower." I squeal in surprise as Sky tucks an arm under my knees, lifting me into his arms bridal style and carries me to the bathroom.
"What are you doing!" I hiss out, wrapping my arms around his neck and hanging on for dear life. I do not want to fall to the ground.
"Getting a bit of alone time with you." With a chuckle he pushes the bathroom closed with his foot before setting me down on my feet. I want to protest but before I can say anything, his lips are on mine and I am pressed between the bathroom wall and his lean body. His left hand snakes around my waist, pulling me flushed against him while his right tangles into my hair. The kiss is feral, his lips claiming me. His teeth nips my bottom lip making me moan a noise I did not know I could make. Sky takes this opportunity to slip his tongue into my mouth, claiming me further.
Just as quickly as the kiss started, it ends, and I find myself gasping for breath. My body feels warm and my mind slightly hazy as Sky continues to pepper kisses on my cheeks and forehead before pulling me closer to his body and tucking my head under his chin.
"Sorry Alli, I...I just needed to kiss you like that." He mumbles into my hair. I feel myself smiling as my fingers grip his now wrinkled shirt. He smells like pine again.
"I... I liked it." My admittance earns me a chuckle as Sky pulls away and places a finger under my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes.
"You liked it?" His voice is deep and husky, his emerald green eyes darker than ever. I nod, unable to trust my voice for a moment before his lips are on mine once more. This kiss is slow and gentle and I kiss him back, closing my eyes and leaning into his touch. This time I am the one to pull away, needing to breath and shyly hide my face into his chest.
"I...I need to shower." I mumble, catching my reflection in the mirror. My face is flushed red.
"I know. I have some things to take care of so I will meet you in the broadcasting room." I nod as Sky pulls away, looking at me with reluctance before he leaves the bathroom, closing the door behind him. Taking a moment to compose myself, I lean against the wall behind me and place a hand on my chest over the spot of my beating heart. Since agreeing to date, mine and Sky's relationship has grown. It has become something I never thought possible. I know I love him.
Sighing, I push myself off from the wall and move towards the shower. Maybe if I can get this day out of the way quickly then I can ask Sky to go on a date with me tonight, even if it is sitting in our tower eating a meal we cooked.
