Jesse

Six weeks was too long. I didn't care that we'd only spent a few days physically together, six weeks was far too long to go without seeing your girlfriend.

The flight from Toronto to Moncton was only two hours, but I wasn't actually flying the damn plane. I'd never felt so out of control. Was it only two hours? It felt like ages since we'd lifted off. Finally, finally, I felt the familiar feeling of descent, the dip of the plane and the pleasant swoop in my gut that meant we were close. I looked out the window, but the scenery didn't mean much to me. I didn't usually fly this route even when I was flying from Toronto to London, we were usually further north than this. But I could see the sea, the Bay of Fundy between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia that Birgitta had promised to show me and that was a good thing.

Fifteen minutes later, we'd touched down and I turned my mobile on before the Captain had said I could. I knew as soon as the plane was on the ground in one piece, it was safe to turn your mobile on.

Jesse: Just landed!
Birgitta: Finally!
Birgitta: You must not have been flying, your plane is late!

I guess I hadn't been imagining the fact that the flight had taken forever.

Jesse: I can't wait to see you
Birgitta: I'm in Arrivals, by baggage claim
Jesse: Brilliant, I'll see you shortly

I'd thought the Halifax airport was tiny, but it had nothing on the Moncton airport. After I'd pushed myself off the airplane, I followed the signs for Baggage Claim and only had to walk for a minute of two before I was there.

'Jesse!'

She must have seen me before I saw her. I was a bit bewildered by the size of the airport when something solid and warm tackled me. I knew it was Birgitta, I recognized her jacket and the smell of her flowery shampoo.

'Bloody hell!' I exclaimed, wrapped my arms around her at once and squeezing her tight. 'Hang on.'

'What?' She looked up and I finally saw her face again.

Shit, she was prettier than I remembered. Video calls didn't do her proper justice. I put my hand on the back of her neck and kissed her firmly and fiercely like I'd wanted to do for the last six weeks.

'Whoa,' she said after a minute or two. Didn't know, didn't care. 'That's... really nice.'

'I missed you,' I told her.

'I missed you, too,' she reached for my hand that wasn't on the back of her neck and clutched it tightly. 'Come on, we need to set up camp before it gets too dark.'

'Lead the way,' I straightened up and let her tug me along, feeling lighter than I had in weeks.

Birgitta

We arrived at the campsite. I'd been to this campground before and knew which sites were a bit more private. After all this time, I just wanted Jesse all to myself.

'Here's your tent,' I told him, opening the trunk of my car and handing him a bright green, nylon bag. 'This one's mine.'

I dropped my own bright orange one on the ground. I'd had to borrow the green one from a friend at work. Mine was only a tiny, two-man tent, and two-men I thought was pushing it, especially if the other man was Jesse, he was tall. I could barely fit inside comfortably on my own. Not that I'd ever shared it with anyone before.

If Jesse was surprised or upset at the fact that we wouldn't be sharing a tent, he gave absolutely no indication that he was. He merely picked up his tent and got to work setting it up.
