Dean's POV

The seventh period bell rang and a short chubby woman with blonde hair came into the classroom. A substitute... Lord have mercy. She sat at the desk and started reading. A wicked smile crossed most everyone's face as they all moved to sit by their friends. Everyone but Castiel who had no friends in that class, with Dean as an exception. There was an empty seat by Cas, as was to be expected with one girl sitting ontop of the guy next to Dean.

The guy next to him leaned over to Dean and said, "Yo, Dean, can my girl sit there?" Dean wasn't even thinking about him, he was planning on sitting with Cas.

Dean stood and grabbed his bag. "Yeah, sure, man." He said making his way to the empty seat by Castiel.

He slid into the desk beside him and smiled. Cas had his head rested on the desk and Dean's jacket on. "Sup, Cas?"

Castiel looked up at him, "Hi."

"Woah, what's wrong with you?" Dean asked.

"Great way to start a conversation." Cas grumbled.

"Bad day?"

"Bad day."

"What happened?" Dean asked. "Does it have something to do with you wearing my jacket?" He flicked lint off the warm material.

"What? Oh, no, I just got cold." Cas said blushing. Dean smiled at him. "Do you want it back?"

"Nah, keep it for a while." He answered. Cas didn't say anything, but he snuggled back farther into the coat. "Did someone give you a hard time for having my jacket?" Dean questioned.

"...no."

"C'mon, Cas, I can't help if you don't tell me what happened." Dean put his hand on Castiel's arm.

"Alistair shoved me into a locker. Its fine. It happens sometimes." Castiel said tilting his head so Dean could see him. He had a small cut above his upper lip but was otherwise okay. He smiled at Dean carefully until Dean smiled back.

"I'm sorry, Cas."

"It's not your fault, Dean." Cas was squinting at him curiously. "There wasn't anything you could do anyway."

"I could beat the shit out of him." Dean declared. Cas smiled softly at him.

"That's okay, Dean. I can handle it."

"You have a cut."

"You should see the other guy." Dean was quiet for a moment before Castiel started laughing.

"Jesus, Cas, what did you do?" Dean asked chuckling more at Cas' reaction than anything.

"I gave him a black eye, I'm afraid." He said not seeming sorry at all. Dean laughed again and patted Castiel's shoulder.

"Never change." He said.

Castiel's smile faltered slightly, "I won't, Dean."

"Good." Dean looked up at the clock. "Hey, Cas?"

"Yes?"

"Do you mind staying after school a while?" Dean murmured embarrassed.

"Why?" Castiel inquired.

"I have football practice tonight, and I wanted to know if you wanted a ride... if you do you'll have to stay after for a while."

"I can drive, Dean. And what about your brother? Does he need a ride? I'd be happy to--"

"Cas, I wanted to drive you home again."

"Oh.... what about your brother?"

"Sam has this geeky math club thing so I'll pick him up after practice. But I wanted to know if I could take you home."
