Dean's POV

Fuck.

Holy fucking tits.

He fucked up.

Cas ran like he'd been shot at, and Dean couldn't find it in himself to move. He knew that he should move, that he should run so hard until he got to Cas that his legs ached and he couldn't breathe. But he couldn't make his legs work. He knew he should move. Hell, he wanted to. Cas was the best thing about him, and he was running just to get away.

Fuck.

Dean sighed and sat down on the curb. His hands dangled between his knees and the door nearly hit him as it opened. A girl stepped out, and in the dim moonlight, it was hard to tell who it was. She came around to the other side of Dean and sat down gingerly beside him. The air outside was slightly cool and it made Dean shiver even as the mystery girl handed him a jacket which he took and folded in his lap. It was Castiel's jacket, and the girl was Charlie. She smiled at him and when Dean didn't smile back, she dropped it.

"What's wrong?" Charlie asked looking him in the eyes. She looked worried and slightly upset.

"Cas left." Dean said looking down at his hands. Charlie sighed, but didn't say anything. "Alistair is such a dick."

"Did he say where he was going?" Charlie eventually asked. Dean shook his head. "Wait, how did he even leave? He can't drive, and its freezing cold out here."

"He ran." Dean answered.

"Cas doesn't run." Charlie murmured. It wasnt meant to, but that comment made Dean feel even worse. "What happened?"

"Alistair told him I was pranking him. That... that none of this was real. That it was all some fucking joke." Dean's voice was horribly low and gravelly. Charlie was silent again, which - Dean discovered - was very unsettling. "Why are you out here?" He asked her gently.

"I love Jo, but she really likes to flirt." Charlie replied quietly, and that was the end of that. She stood up and looked down at Dean. "Lets go find your Leia, Han." She said giving Dean a hand.

Dean smiled at her slowly and they started towards the car. "Wait, should you go get Jo?" Dean questioned as he opened the door to the Impala.

"I'll text her." Charlie muttered climbing in shotgun. "I'm sure Balthazar won't mind taking her home." Her voice was hard, and she pressed her lips into a firm line, so Dean didn't press the subject.

Dean looked down at the seat and saw Castiel's phone tucked in the seat. "Well, this search just became a lot more difficult." He said picking up the phone. He checked to see if there were any calls or messages, but the last call was from Dean at 2:30 that day. He had had to ask Cas what tie he should wear.

"Great." Charlie said.

"Where do you think he would go?" Dean asked when he had successfully navigated the parking lot.

"I don't know. Well... there is this one place. Do you know how to get to Riverfront Park?"

"Yeah, me and Sammy used to go seemed like every weekend." Dean smiled at the memory as he started down the road.

"Thats where Cas and I spent most of our time until you two started dating." She didnt say anything for a second, but then added in a much more serious tone. "We were there when his mom died."

They were both quiet for a while until, "How'd she die?"

Charlie looked over at Dean, and in that look it was like the memory lived in her eyes. "It was an accident." She whispered. Dean kept driving, hands clutching the wheel incredibly tightly. "We were swinging, and Cas jumped out because he claimed he could fly, so I jumped out too, but when I jumped out I ran into him. He and I fell down and we hit her legs and she lost her balance and fell backwards. She hit her head on a rock, and just-- it was an accident." She said, her eyes caught tears, but she didn't cry. She cleared her throat, "We still go sometimes, though. He told me that it makes him feel close to her."

Dean nodded and parked across the street. They got out of the car and walked toward the playground. Because it was late, there weren't any children. But Cas wasn't there either. Dean sighed. "Any other ideas?" He wondered.

Charlie felt for her phone before she remembered that her dress didn't have pockets and she'd left her phone on the dash of the Impala. "Can I use your phone?" She asked. Dean nodded and reached in his pocket to hand her the device. She dialed a number and the phone rang a few times before Charlie started talking. "Dad? Yeah, hey, has Cas come back to the house? Uh-huh. Yeah, we're just looking for him. No, he's fine, he just left to get some space and left his phone accidentally. Okay. Well, thanks anyway. Would you call me back on this number if he turns up? Yeah. Or just tell him to call Dean. Okay. Love you too, dad. Bye." She handed him his phone back. "No luck."

"We'll find him." Dean assured, but his voice was tight and he didn't seem convinced.

"Yeah, we will." Charlie agreed. "You said he ran?" Dean nodded. "Well, then he couldn't have gotten too far." She suddenly seemed to be alight with a new hope. They'd just gotten back to the car when Charlie's phone rang.

She answered and breathed a sigh of relief. "Cas, where are you?" She practically yelled. Dean's head snapped up and he stared at Charlie. She was frowning and quiet. "Why are you back there...? Cas?" Dean's jaw was clenched and he looked away when Charlie nodded and said, "Yeah, he's here." She was quiet, listening to whatever Cas was saying to her. She handed the phone to Dean and he put it to his ear catiously.

"Dean?"

"Yeah, Cas, I'm here."

"I'm sorry." He murmured gently. His voice was wet and it made Dean's heart sink. "I'm really sorry I got mad at you."

"It's okay Cas. I--"

"But I can't do this."

"Cas--"

"I'm sorry."

"Cas, Angel, please--"

"Goodbye, Dean." Castiel hung up, but Dean stared at the phone.

"Are you okay, Dean?" Charlie asked and Dean shook his head.

"I don't... I think I'm going to go home." He said. Charlie nodded and got in the car. Dean drove her home and while they were sitting in her driveway, she leaned over and hugged him.

"It'll be okay." She said.

"Okay."

"I love you."

"I know." Dean smirked a little bit when Charlie punched him in the shoulder.

Dean stopped his car and looked up at the purple-black house. He sighed and got out of the car.
