Castiel's POV

"Will you just go? It's best for Castiel." LeAnn shouted at Chuck. Although the two were outside the room, the door was shut, and all of Castiel's siblings - also Dean and Sam - were trying to distract him, Cas could hear every word of their conversation.

"I should know what's best for Castiel! I'm his father!" Chuck screamed back.

"You left him in the same house as an abuser! And from what I've heard, you let this happen!" LeAnn yelled. There was a firey rage coming from her. She'd never even raised her voice in front of Cas, let alone had an all out screaming match. She sounded disgusted. Castiel had always looked up at her. Now, more than ever, but he'd always gone down fighting for Chuck. He'd defended him so strongly that he'd been punished on multiple occasions. And no one had ever done the same for Castiel. Well, Dean had come the closest when he fought Alistair.

Cas looked down at the starchy sheets that covered him. Gabriel was telling them all about how his entire class was making Cas a get well card, and they wanted to get him a present. Cas would nod occasionally, but the persistent battle outside the door was occupying most of his thoughts.

"Do you hear them?" Castiel whispered to Dean when Luci had turned to correct something Gabriel had said.

"I think everyone does." He murmured back. Cas slid his hand out from under the sheets and into Dean's. Dean gave it a light squeeze and looked deeply at Cas. "It's okay." He assured softly. Cas nodded and continued looking at Dean, long after Dean had started paying attention to what Sam was saying.

"Well, maybe if he wasn't such an immoral sin, I would've done something!" Chuck's voice rose among the others, and everyone fell silent. Cas looked at the door, and then at Alfie who sat with eyes wide and watering.

"What does t-that mean?" Alfie whispered. His voice shook and Dean gave Castiel's hand another squeeze and then he stood. All eyes were on him.

"It means your father is a douchebag." Dean said going for the door.

"Dean." Cas scolded.

"Well!" was all Dean said, and then he was out the door. And, as Castiel was unable to walk, there wasn't anything he could do about it. A few seconds passed before Dean's voice was clear. He wasn't shouting, but the door hadn't shut all the way. ""Immoral sin" or not, he's still your goddamn son."

Chuck said something then, but Cas had interjected so none of them could hear, "Luci, how's school?" Slowly, she looked away from the door and at Castiel.

"Mr. Jameson got a new girlfriend, so he's loosened his grip on the school along with reality. There are PDAs (public displays of affection) everywhere." She laughed. Cas smiled at her and then at Sam when he pushed the door shut.

"Thank you." He said to the whole room. What they didn't know is that he meant for existing.

Dean's POV

Chuck stood slack against the wall. He didn't look thrilled to see Dean as he pushed the door softly. He didn't wait to hear it click into place for him to start talking. ""Immoral sin" or not, he's still your goddamn son." Dean growled. The door clicked shut all the way, and Dean felt an icy feeling a lot like guilt slip through him.

It took LeAnn a minute to recover from his crude language, but when she did, she nodded and added, "He may be gay, but that does not mean he is not yours. He has always been yours."

"Even when he went through all thus shit, he was defending your fucking honor. He fought for you so many times, and you couldn't even step in and stop him from being beaten almost to death. Even Maggie tried to help him." Dean snapped when Chuck opened his mouth to say something.
