"A...What?" I stuttered, unsure if what I was hearing was right, or if I was just simply hearing things.
This isn't what had been planned. After being in this workplace for nearly a week now, everything had been going well. But this, this was beyond plan.
I had no intention of getting to know anyone here so going there wouldn't benefit me in any way.

"Yes, you heard it right. It's a celebration because of the new management. We'd be really happy if everyone came. It's an important moment in the company, so please understand." DoHee explained happily with a content smile.

Even with the explanation, I don't find a reason to waste time and go to something like this. It wouldn't benefit anyone and it would just cause a delay in finishing work.
"I'm not sure... I'm quite busy these days..." I said, indirectly denying the request.

However, it didn't seem to end there.

"It's necessary that you come. You're new to the company and you can't miss this. There's also an opportunity to get to know everyone that works here." She insisted, trying her best to make me agree to it.
But that was never easy with me.

That was one thing that everybody hated about me. Once I had my mind set on something, it was extremely difficult to take my mind off of it. That part of me never changed, it just became less noticeable. With work being the only thing currently crossing my mind, I didn't plan on having any days out that were completely unnecessary. Wasting time is a huge problem for me and I try to avoid it as much as possible.

This job was difficult to attain, so I shouldn't let useless events ruin it for me.

"I appreciate the invitation but I don't have the time right now..." Deep down I hoped and begged for her to just take the hint and leave me alone. But I guess I wasn't getting out of this so easily. Because it turns out she had more ideas up her sleeve than I had originally hoped for.

"It will give you a chance for your ideas to be noticed." She menacingly whispered in my ear. She knew that I would give it all for my ideas to be noticed so I couldn't deny that offer. Even though it irritated me that I had to attend a social event with my colleagues and managers, I couldn't let go of an opportunity like this. It was once in a lifetime and skipping it would just be another terrible mistake.

"Fine. I'll be there." I sighed in defeat knowing that I had once again been persuaded for another thing.
Her eyes lit up and she looked happy and content with my answer, like she wasn't expecting me to agree so quickly.

"Great! I'll email you all the details so make sure to arrive on time." DoHee chuckled to herself and then walked away leaving me alone, making me feel defeated again.

Was this something I had to go through with? Was it really necessary to waste time on something so simple?

It's not like I go to these things every day. The last time I went to a celebration event like this was when my sister got her new job at a huge company and she wanted to celebrate it with her friends and family by getting drunk. Almost every one of her friends had attended. Me and I came as well because it seemed we had no choice.

However, I would give up anything for my ideas to be noticed, especially if it was to the managers and head executives.

So, I guess I'm going.

"What? Already?" Your sister's eyes lit up as she stuffed another piece of food into her mouth, but soon after she calmed herself down and focused all of her attention on you. She had that reassuring look in her eyes that signaled to you that she was listening to every word you were saying.
