It's 1am and i'm quietly observing the drunken mess around me. I'm stone cold sober with no thought in my head apart from the thought of getting these dumbasses home. Well dumbasses apart from Maya. When we got outside she jumped into action making sure we were all together and far away from the people who were stupid enough to argue with the officers. She was shivering from the cold even with my jacket pulled tight around her. I had first went to check on Riley but she avoided me like a plague so I stepped back. She looked tired and nervous, I didn't want to make it worse.

We all looked tired and like we have been dragged through bushes but Maya somehow still managed to look flawless despite the chaos.

Riley is pacing in zig zags on the grass, her eyes were shifty as if she committed a crime and Farkle is curled in a ball on the kerb. The pair of them making the actual drugged up people of the party look like saints.

Smackle twists her head on either of Zay's shoulder whispering random words in each of his ears like she's his angel and devil. He's giving her a piggy back which I think is a bad idea because one step forward and Zay will face plant straight into cement taking Smackle with him.

Maya stands to my side staring at the police cars at Sasha and Roxie's house, one of the sisters are currently bribing the police away while the other can be seen frantically spraying the house with air freshener. The blue and red of the sirens cast shadows onto Maya's face making her glow brighter. Maya isn't drunk which is unusual to see. Usually when i'm here she always ends up being carried by me but today she's accompanying me in the efforts of getting the crew home.

Except there isn't much effort we are all existing in silence as we wait for a police officer to do a test to see if i'm sober enough to drive.

"Don't you worry Lucas! i'm drunk and ready to be sober" Smackle says not knowing that she most definitely won't be tested as she has reached a level of drunk that can be recognised by a single movement.

" p'preciate it darlin but I think you'll be fine" I reply and I step closer to Maya facing her. "You think they're ever gonna get to us?"

She jumps at the sound of my voice and meets my eyes for a second before darting her eyes away. "Uh- um- Well let's see"

"HELP SIR OFFICER SIR" she screams making me jump this time.

A police officer strides towards us with an impatient look on his face. I'm gearing up ready to apologise but Maya takes complete hold over the conversation. She apologises for the disturbance even though I know she couldn't care less that they're doing their job of crashing high school party and somehow flatters the officer enough to do a test on me and pass me okay to drive.

As he walks away, I order everyone to shuffle into the car, Maya riding front because she's the only one sober. As everyone gets into the car I turn and find her staring up at the sky. The sight of the stars and her go well together, she shines brighter than all of them.

"The stars would be much more beautiful if the clouds weren't in the way" She says distracted as if her thoughts are consumed by something else. I keep my eyes on her when I reply.

"Yeah but everyone knows that the stars are beautiful behind the clouds, and even though it's not clear, it still is beautiful." I try hard not to think about the hidden meaning, especially when Maya starts to smile. "Stargazing in Texas was one of my favourite things"

"You a big fan of the stars huckleberry?" she looks back at me.

"I count on them to guide me home" I say keeping eye contact with her. It's silent for a moment, a comfortable one filled with words neither of us can bring ourselves to express.

She's the first to look away, opens the door and the moment passes. "Ever heard of a satnav sundance?"

I walk over to my door "Can't say I have starshine"
