Leah's POV

I sit on a bench outside the mall and I'm thinking, 'New York weather is unpredictable', in my opinion. The sun is shining and the wind is blowing. Maybe tomorrow it will rain a few inches. And the day after that, there will be lightning and thunderstorms. Then sooner or later it will end up snowing.

June is when the stores are full. Girls trying on bikinis and boys trying to get a glimpse of them. Bikinis are a girls worst nightmare. Getting your body ready for it is a lot of pressure.

"Leah?"

I hear my name and turn around to spot my best friend, Nina.

I've known Nina for the longest. Her family use to lived across the street from us when I was a little girl. My dad insisted that we go help the new neighbors move in. I helped her carry her boxes into her room and from there on we became best friends.

"Leah, I was looking for you inside. I was about to call you."

"I just wanted some fresh air. It's stuffy inside." I fanned my face.

Nina was finally done with her shopping and I didn't really buy anything, except for a pair of shoes. You can never have too many pairs of shoes.

"Bye, Nina." I waved to her as she entered her apartment building.

I wanted to pay my dad a visit so I drove off to his house.

My dad is the most caring and loving and strongest person. In my 28 years of life, he has always been there for me. When my mother passed away, I was there for him instead. He loved her so much and couldn't believe that she was gone. I remember the doctors telling us she only had a couple days left to live.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years back. The cancer had spread and it was too late for her. My father did everything to try and save her. He paid thousands and even millions for the specialists. He called doctors from all over the world, but it was too late.

She died after my 25th birthday. I was happy that she was with me on a special day before her death.

I stepped inside my dad's home and called him out. "Daddy? Are you home?"

"In here!" He yelled from his library.

I walked inside and saw him sitting down, reading another book, with his feet up on his desk.

"Reading, again?" I chuckled and sat on a chair in front of his desk.

"I will never stop, if that's what you mean." He set his book down and put his feet on the ground.

"How you been, dad?"

"If I say great, will you quit worrying about me?" He flashed a smile.

"Dad?!"

He chuckled. "Sorry, but tell me about yourself? How have you been?"

"Awesome. The new place in the city is beautiful. Thanks again for letting me have your penthouse. I really appreciate it." I held his hand in mine.

"It's no problem. It was your mother's and she would have given it to you sooner or later."

I stood up from the chair. "Have you had dinner yet?"

"Hilda is preparing something."

"You hired her back?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"I never fired her in the first place. Hilda has been working for us for a long time now." Dad explained.

We walked into the kitchen and sure enough Hilda was in there and the smell was making my mouth water.

"Hello, my little niña." I gave Hilda a hug and peck on the cheek.

"I sure do miss your cooking, nana." I looked over her shoulder and saw the soup boiling in the pot.

I helped my dad set up the table and Hilda served us our food.

"Architectural company going good, dad?"

"Yea, I got this call for some outlines that they wanna see. You know my buildings are always winners." Dad smiled.

"Your buildings are out of this world."

"And you? Did you get the job at that law firm?" Dad sipped soup off his spoon.

"They're gonna call me and let me know by the end of the day. I hope I got it. Harvard Law School would have been a waste if I didn't get it."

"A waste of my money, too." Dad mumbled.

I giggled at his response.

We finished dinner and I went home.

I stepped out of the elevator and unlocked my front door. The place was still clean and I want to keep it that way. My keys and purse were dropped on the little table by the door and my scarf got hung on the rack.

I went up to my room and took off my wedges that were hurting my feet. I changed into my yoga pants and a crop top. Talk about dressing comfy.

I went back down and admired the view for a second. It was New York City in the evening and the sunset never looked so beautiful. The sun was just above the horizon and still shining bright.

I could see my reflection through the window and looked at myself. My blonde hair falling down my back and my blue eyes that I got from my mom. My height I got from my dad. He is a tall man.

Tomorrow was going to be Saturday. Saturdays are the days where Nina and I like to go out and party. She will usually have a one-night-stand and I will leave early because I get tired.

I sat on my couch with a cup of coffee in my hand, watching Friends on Netflix. Sometimes I wish I could be Phoebe and not care about life. Just live it.

I was in the middle of singing the theme song when my phone rang.

"Hello?" I answered.

"May I speak to Leah Davis please?" A lady spoke, formally.

"This is she."

"Miss Davis, I'm Marc Johnson's secretary and he has requested to see you. Can you come in on Monday at 8am?"

"Yes, I can. Thanks for calling."

"Have a good night."

I hung up and smiled. I think I got the job. If he wants to see me, then there's a huge chance I got it.

I continued watching Netflix until I got tired. I went up to my room and crawled onto my soft bed. Goodnight everybody.
